Arrests:

11:52am     2600 Blk Mission                      Evading Police
A routine traffic stop turned into a chase across several neighborhoods. Ingleside Sgt. Alvarez was traveling east on Monterey Blvd in an unmarked police vehicle when she saw a 2015 Honda Fit sail through a stop sign. A computer check of the Honda said it was a “ZIP” car that was registered locally. Sgt. Alvarez requested assistance and Ingleside Officers Archilla and Smith soon arrived to help with the traffic stop. Archilla and Smith activated their emergency lights and siren but, the Honda driver and his passenger, instead of stopping, took off at high rate of speed. The Honda and the pursuing officers traveled down Circular, Baden, and finally onto northbound San Jose Avenue, where, in the interest of safety, the officers terminated their high speed pursuit. Nevertheless, the officers observed, at a distance, the driver fly through red lights at San Jose and Randall, 30th and Mission, and 29th and Mission. Archilla, Smith, and Alvarez, now joined by officers from Mission Station, searched the area for the fleeing suspects. At 22nd and Mission, Sgt Alvarez spotted the Zip car parked in the middle of the roadway with the suspects not around. Additional units arrived to help with the search. A witness walked up to Alvarez and said he saw the suspects walking southbound on Mission Street. Nearby the abandoned vehicle was a “Sketchers” store and, working on a hunch, Alvarez, Archilla, and Smith went into the store and found a security guard who told them that the suspects had just run to the rear of the establishment. As the officers made their way through the store they found the driver of the vehicle near the cash registers. He was placed in custody. In the basement, the officers discovered his female passenger. Both were taken to Ingleside Station. A search of the Honda found an IPad which was reported stolen earlier from a vehicle at McAllister and Hyde Streets. The Honda’s front window was broken possibly indicating it was stolen although, at this writing, ZIP car has not notified police of the vehicle’s status. A computer check of the driver revealed he was wanted on a $100,000 warrant out of Fresno for vehicle theft and is currently on probation in San Francisco for the same crime. The driver was booked for several felonies and his passenger was released. Report number: 160118234
