Incident Date:
Friday, December 27th, 2013

The next community meeting at Ingleside Station will be held on January 21, 2014.  Thank you.

Outstanding Police Work:  Members of the Ingleside Police Station have been hard at work, while putting their lives on the line, and recovered a total of five guns between a five day period, beginning Oct 31, 2013 to Nov 5, 2013. Among the weapons recovered were three handguns, one shotgun and one Tech-9 sub-machine gun all stemming from four separate incidents. Of the five subjects taken into custody, two were on probation and had extensive police records. We strongly believe that these great arrests may have prevented some serious crimes from taking place. Thanks to these great officers, the streets are a little saferJ.

Scam Alert:  Here is how it works: the suspect will call the victim and identify himself as a PG&E employee.  The suspect will ask for the victim by name and ask if he/she is the owner of a particular business or property.  Once the victim replies yes, the suspect tells the victim that his/her bill is delinquent in a specific amount.  The suspect then tells the victim that he/she needs to pay the delinquent bill by a certain time or their service will be terminated.  The suspect instructs the victim to buy MoneyPak cards in a specific amount.  The suspect then instructs the victim to read the card's code numbers to him over the phone.  Once that is done, the money is gone and the scam is complete.

The suspect will give the victim a call-back number that goes to a voicemail that identifies itself via recording as PG&E.

If you receive a call like this, please call the customer service number on your billing statement to confirm the call is legitimate.  If that call turns out to be a scam, please have a police report made

Arrests:

7:48pm       4100 Blk Mission                      Drugs
A malfunctioning tail light led to the arrest of a parolee. Ingleside Officers Padilla, Seavey, Barajas were on routine patrol when they noticed an older Mercedes with a tail light out. The officers decided to stop the driver and advise him to fix the problem. Officer Padilla told the driver why he was being stopped and asked to see his driver’s license. The driver said he didn’t have his license with him. However, he did give the officers his name and birth date and a computer check revealed that the driver was on felony parole with a search condition out of San Mateo County. When the officers found a quantity of methamphetamine in one of his pants pockets, the suspect blurted out, “all I have on me is personal use. I’m an addict, I’m an addict.” He was taken to Ingleside Station and booked for illegal possession of narcotics. Report number: 131087951

At that time, he told Officer Curry, the SUV also stopped. The victim noticed two occupants, a driver and passenger, both of whom got out of the SUV and walked up to the driver’s side window and began punching the victim in the face and neck. One of the suspects then said, “You’re lucky I don’t feel like shooting you”, before he walked back to the SUV and drove away with the passenger. Arrests:

4:40am       Mission/30th                           Attempted Robbery
A victim was out taking his early morning walk when, up ahead, he noticed four suspects standing at the corner of Mission and 30th Street. The victim said he got a funny feeling because they were glancing at him as he approached. As he passed by one of the males in the group asked him for a couple dollars. The victim replied and told them he did not carry any cash. Suddenly, the suspects surrounded him. The victim said at that point he knew he was going to be robbed and became fearful for his life. The victim then pulled out his pepper spray and threatened to spray the suspects. One of the suspects in the group pulled out a knife and demanded money. Once the victim saw the knife, he immediately, “ran for his life”, and ran into an open business and yelled at the shop owners to call for the police. The suspects did not chase after the suspect and instead ran away. Officers Dominguez and Zahn responded and detained two out of the four suspects. Officer Carrasco met with the victim who identified the two suspects as taking part in the attempted robbery. The victim told Officer Carrasco that the suspect with the knife was not one of the two suspects in custody. Several units searched the area and were unable to locate the two outstanding suspects. The two that were in custody were charged and booked for the attempted robbery. Report Number: 131079033.

Serious Incidents:

12:13am     Hahn/Blythdale                       Evading Police
Officers Dominguez and Zahn were on duty patrolling the Sunnydale Housing Development when they observed a vehicle run a posted STOP sign at the intersection of Santos and Blythdale. The officers effected a traffic stop in order to cite the driver for the moving violation. The driver complied and immediately pulled over. Officer Dominguez approached the vehicle and made contact with the driver, who suddenly put the transmission in gear and fled at a high rate of speed. The officers quickly jumped back in their patrol vehicle and started to follow the vehicle. The officers used their radios to give the responding units the description and direction of travel. The vehicle had a good head start on the officers when it pulled into a nearby parking lot. The officers caught up to the vehicle and noticed that it had now been abandoned. The officers searched the interior and found a rental agreement inside the glove compartment. They then conducted a computer inquiry on the name listed on the rental agreement and got a hit. They were able to match the name with a recent mug shot of the suspect. The officers found out that the suspect was on active probation with a search condition. Several officers searched the area to no avail. The vehicle was then towed from the scene. Report Number: 131788847

The second suspect remained behind them preventing any escape. The victims feared for their lives and immediately gave up a purse, jewelry, cell phone and miscellaneous credit cards and cash. The suspects took the belongings and fled the area. Luckily, the victims were not hurt. A search of the area came up short. Report Number: 131078176

Dec. 22, 2013

Incident Date:
Sunday, December 22nd, 2013

The San Francisco Neighborhood Emergency Response Team (NERT) is free training from the San Francisco Fire Department in how to help yourself and your neighbors prepare for and respond to a disaster by working together. The 20-hour training, taught by First Responders, includes personal preparedness, light search and rescue, disaster medicine, shutting off your utilities, and how to participate as a member of a neighborhood response team.  NERT also offers continuing training for graduates and activities that support building robust neighborhood teams.  For more information, visit the NERT website at http://sfgov.org//sffdnert, or contact Lt. Erica Arteseros at (415)970-2022 or sffdnert@sfgov.org

Are you someone who is interested in disaster preparedness and wants to help out your community while working hand in hand with law enforcement? Then the ALERT program is for you!
                                            What is the A.L.E.R.T. Program?

The San Francisco Police Department has developed a volunteer citizen disaster preparedness program. The Auxiliary Law Enforcement Response Team (ALERT) is modeled after and works in partnership with the San Francisco Fire Department's Neighborhood Emergency Response Team (NERT). The ALERT program will train members of the public to assist law enforcement in essential tasks after a major disaster. Such tasks may include: traffic control, foot patrol of business and residential areas, and reporting criminal activity. Volunteers must be at least 16 years of age and live, work, or attend high school in San Francisco.

Three steps to becoming an
A.L.E.R.T. volunteer:
1. Complete NERT training and receive certification. To register for NERT training courses please visit www.sfgov.org/sfnert
2. Once NERT certified, forward a copy of your NERT ID card to the ALERT program. sfpdalert@sfov.org
3. After clearing a basic background check the individual is eligible to register for ALERT training.

The next ALERT training class has been scheduled for Jan. 18th, 2014, from 8:00am-5:00pm. This class will be held at the San Francisco Police Academy, in the parking lot bungalow.

Arrests:

12:30pm     John F. Shelley/Cambridge                  Theft
An IPad tracking app. helped police arrest two thieves. Ingleside Officer Chicas and Fulgado had stopped a vehicle on Diamond Heights Boulevard for a traffic violation. While they were talking to the occupants a man drove up and yelled to the officers, “Hey, you got my IPad? I’m tracking it”.  The man told the officers that he was walking with his son in McLaren Park when he saw a vehicle drive up to his car and the passenger got out and entered his vehicle. A short time later, the passenger exited his vehicle and got back in her car and was driven away. He said the car that police stopped on Diamond Heights was the same one he saw earlier in McLaren Park. He also identified the male and female suspects and the thieves who stole his IPad. A search of the suspect’s vehicle turned up the stolen IPad along with a rescue window punch tool, a black Michael Khors purse, over a dozen gift cards, and more than $900 in currency. The suspects were booked at Ingleside Station for theft, possession of stolen property, and other crimes. Report number: 131075047

Serious Incidents:

3:30am       4600 Block Mission                             Robbery
The cashier at a local restaurant went to Ingleside Station to report a robbery. The victim, who is pregnant, told Ingleside Officers Trail and Peregoy that she was closing up the restaurant early that morning when a man ran into the business holding a handgun in his right hand. He yelled at her demanding her purse and threatened to kill her if she didn’t do what he said. When she hesitated for a second, the suspect hit her in the face with the handgun. Fearing for her life, she relinquished her purse and the suspect ran out of the restaurant and escaped in an unknown direction. The victim said her purse contained almost a thousand dollars in currency, including the restaurant’s receipts from that evening, several debit cards, a cell phone, and a passport. Subsequent interviews with the victim and restaurant patrons revealed the robber may be a man known by police for previous crimes. The investigation is continuing. Report number: 131074378

6:25pm       1000 Blk Girard                                  Robbery
A pedestrian struggled to hold on to her purse but finally released her grip after being violently punched in the face. The victim told Ingleside Officers Ocreto and Pereira that she was walking home when she heard someone running up behind her. Before she could turn around, she was pushed to the ground while the suspect grabbed her purse trying to pull it off her shoulder. She said she was able to hold onto the purse until the suspect, using his fist, punched her in the face. After the attack she went home and called police. The victim refused medical attention. The loss was five credit cards and $40 in currency. Report number: 131075495

6:40pm       Silver/Gambier                                    Robbery
Another woman, while walking home, was also robbed of her purse. The victim told Ingleside Officers Gonzalez and Quinlan that she was talking on her cell phone when two suspects ran up behind her and pushed her to the ground. After she fell, both suspects began violently kicking her legs while she screamed for help and struggled to keep them from taking her purse and cell phone. Unfortunately, no one came to her aid and she was forced to give up her possessions. The two suspects then ran away eastbound on Silver with the victim in pursuit still yelling for help. She said, after a short chase, the suspects got into a waiting vehicle, which escaped eastbound on Silver Avenue. Besides losing her cell phone, the victim said her stolen purse contained keys and several credit cards. She refused medical treatment and a search by several Ingleside units revealed negative results. Report number: 131075520
