Arrests:

4:29am       Mission & Allison                          Stolen Vehicle
A pursuit of two car thieves resulted in an officer receiving a significant injury. It began when a resident on Foote Avenue called dispatch saying he had observed two men stealing his older gold Honda Accord, a model that is a prime object for car thieves. Dispatch broadcast a description of the stolen car and Ingleside Officers Ortega and Cagney spotted the Honda headed Northbound on Alemany Blvd. The pair radioed dispatch and followed the Honda before activating their emergency lights and siren at Mt. Vernon and Mission. The thieves, seeing and hearing the pursuing officers, sped away at high rate of speed but the wet roadway thwarted their escape. The Honda spun out at Mission and Allison Streets and stopped with the officer’s patrol car now facing the front of the Honda. Officer Ortega opened the front driver’s door of the patrol car believing the suspects were about to flee on foot. However, instead of bolting out of the car, the Honda driver accelerated into the door of the patrol car pinning Officer Ortega’s leg between the door and the door jam. The suspect then fled in the Honda.  Officer Ortega pushed the patrol car’s accelerator to free his leg, and then took off in pursuit, along with his partner Cagney, finally apprehending the suspect on the unit block of Ottawa Avenue. The suspect, during the chase, had discarded several items including burglary tools used to break into and steal vehicles.
