Arrests:

11:34pm     5800 Blk Mission                       Burglary
The manager of a gas station helped police catch a car burglar. The manager was working inside at the cash register when a woman customer came running in and said that her car, at one of the pumps, was just burglarized. The woman had just paid for fuel at the register and returned to her car to find the front passenger window broken and her cell phone and other items missing. The manager looked at security footage and noticed a man walk up to the victim’s car, remove an object from his clothing, and punch the window before removing the stolen property. The manager called police then closed and locked the gas station’s front door, got into his car, and drove down Mission Street where he spotted the suspect at a Muni bus at Mission and Whittier. He called police again and gave dispatch the bus number and route number and followed the Muni bus as it drove north on Mission Street. Ingleside Officers Williams, Lozano, and Hermosura located the bus at Mission and Excelsior Streets. The officers found the suspect sitting at the back of the vehicle, with the stolen items, and placed him under arrest. The manager positively identified the suspect as the man who broke into one of his customer’s cars. The suspect was taken to Ingleside Station and booked for burglary. Report number: 140791850

11:35pm     400 Blk La Grande                Attempted Armed Robbery
Two young men, claiming to be “undercover police officers” attempted to rob another young man of his belongings. The victim told Ingleside Officers Austin and Naser that he had just parked his car in front of his cousin’s home and was exiting his vehicle when two men got out of a nearby car and approached his driver’s side door claiming they were police officers. One of the men was holding a pistol at his side and the other had a can of pepper spray pointed at the victim’s face. The suspicious victim asked to see the officer’s badges when suddenly one of the suspects struck the victim several times in the face. One suspect then reached into the victim’s pockets and, finding nothing, turned around, ran back to their car, and drove away. A short time later, Ingleside Officers Naval and Busalacchi located the suspect’s vehicle on the unit block of Park Street. They stopped the car, placed the occupants in handcuffs, and the victim was driven to the scene where he positively identified two of the men as the ones who tried to rob him. Both suspects were booked for attempted armed robbery. (An important note to this event is that all on duty police officers, in uniform or in plain clothes, will always have their badges prominently displayed on their clothing.)
