Weather related crime alert; with the current nice weather and increased temperature, some people are leaving their windows open in an effort to keep their residences cooler inside. Be extra careful, especially when you leave your home and leave the windows unsecured. Burglars are always looking for the easiest way inside your home. Don’t give them that opportunity for the easy access. Make sure to secure these entry points and leave them locked when you are not around.
Public Safety; In light of recent events at the Boston marathon, the police department will be increasing patrols in areas where the public gather including special events. If you see a suspicious package that does not look right or does not belong in the area, do not investigate it yourself. Create a safe distance between you and the suspicious package and do not use your cell phone to call the police. Use a landline to call “911” and provide your location and if possible the description of the package. Officers will be dispatched to assess the situation and take the appropriate action.
Arrests:
1:30am Unit Blk Tiffany Weapon
Officers Carrasco and Dominguez were dispatched to investigate a report of a man with a knife being chased down the street by another man with his dog. The dispatcher told the officers that a man had walked into a nearby bar and pulled out a knife, which led to the chase by the bars bouncer. The officers responded to the vicinity and soon discovered Ingleside Officers Lustenberger and Chew had detained both men at the intersection of Godeus and Tiffany Street. While Lustenberger was talking to the man with the knife, Officer Chew talked to the bar employee who became increasingly angry and threatening toward the bar patron. He refused to obey Officer Chew’s commands and, after a brief struggle, was handcuffed. Both officers continued talking to both men and decided to arrest the patron for brandishing a weapon and released the bar employee because he was a crime victim. Officers Burke, Almaguer and Cassinelli were assigned to an area in the Bayview District with a history of narcotics violations. While sitting in their police vehicle, the officers noticed a man talking briefly to different people who walked up to him on a street corner. Sometimes, this same man would approach parked vehicles, enter the vehicles for a short time, before exiting the vehicles. He would also, occasionally, walk a short distance away and enter a parked white van for a brief time, then exit the van and go back to the street corner. The officers did not see anyone else enter or exit the van. A short time later, after exiting the van, the officers watched the man get on a bicycle and ride away down the sidewalk. The officers decided to question the man and caught up with the suspect. A computer check of his status revealed he was wanted on an outstanding traffic warrant. The officers placed him under arrest. The suspect denied he had any narcotics in his possession; however a search revealed a prescription bottle with close to forty prescription narcotic pills. A search of the van turned up cocaine, cocaine powder, morphine pills, Hydrocodone, Oxycontin, Diazepan, along with a pipe used for ingesting methamphetamine and a grinder for marijuana. The suspect was transported to Ingleside Station and booked on several narcotics violations. Report number: 130358818
