Weather related crime alert; with the current nice weather and increased temperature, some people are leaving their windows open in an effort to keep their residences cooler inside. Be extra careful, especially when you leave your home and leave the windows unsecured. Burglars are always looking for the easiest way inside your home. Don’t give them that opportunity for the easy access. Make sure to secure these entry points and leave them locked when you are not around.
Public Safety; In light of recent events at the Boston marathon, the police department will be increasing patrols in areas where the public gather including special events. If you see a suspicious package that does not look right or does not belong in the area, do not investigate it yourself. Create a safe distance between you and the suspicious package and do not use your cell phone to call the police. Use a landline to call “911” and provide your location and if possible the description of the package. Officers will be dispatched to assess the situation and take the appropriate action.
Arrests:
2:33am 700 Blk Rolph Burglary
Officers Hauscarriague and Ma went to a call on the 700 block of Rolph Street regarding a person breaking into a vehicle. Dispatch advised the officers that the male suspect was breaking into a White hatchback vehicle. Several Ingleside units responded to the area as well. Officers Carrasco, Dominguez, Dilag and Jones arrived on scene and found the male suspect standing close to the vehicle that had been broken into. The officers noticed that the vehicle had a shattered rear passenger window and its contents inside had been rummaged through. The officers looked around the area and found two other vehicles that had been boosted as well. Officer Hauscarriague spoke to the witness who said he heard a loud noise outside. He then went to take a look and saw the suspect standing next to a Blue vehicle. The witness said he didn’t think anything at the time and went about his business. A short time later, the witness heard another loud noise outside. Again, he went to take a look, but this time saw the same suspect inside the White hatchback. The witness immediately called the police and provided the suspect’s description. Officers on scene searched the suspect and found several items inside his pockets. The owners of all three vehicles were contacted and identified the property recovered from the suspect as their property taken out of the vehicles. The suspect was arrested and booked on several charges including burglary of a vehicle. Report number: 130355187.
2:45pm 4000 Blk Mission Warrant/Battery on a Police Officer
Ingleside Officer Johnson, while on routine patrol, noticed a man acting suspicious and trying to enter a residence, where numerous arrests have been made before. Officer Johnson stopped her patrol car and approached the man asking what he was doing at that location. “Visiting a friend” he said. She asked him if he was on probation or parole and he said “no”; however he did admit to Officer Johnson that he had been arrested, “but not in a while”. A “pat search” turned up no identification, which the subject said “he left at home”. When asked for his name and date of birth, the man gave false information. At this time Ingleside Officer Rand joined Officer Johnson at the scene and both asked the suspect to turn around so that he could be handcuffed and detained while the officers attempted to find out his real identity. When the officers attempted to place handcuffs on his wrists, the suspect pulled away and swung both fists at the officers. He continued assaulting the officers for some time and, at one point, reached for Officer Johnson’s gun belt. Finally, both officers wrestled the suspect to the ground and placed him in handcuffs just as additional Ingleside units arrived. A computer check revealed the suspect was wanted on a felony warrant from San Mateo County. During a thorough search, the officers discovered a forged check, and several “shaved keys” which are used in vehicle thefts and burglaries. Paramedics treated the suspect at the scene for injuries before police officers transported him to the County Jail. Officer Johnson sustained some injuries during the altercation and was later treated at St. Francis Medical Center. Report number: 130356492
10:30pm Unit Blk Cayuga Robbery
Officers Ma and Hauscarriague were sent to the unit block of Cayuga to investigate a street robbery. The victim told the officers that she was walking home when two men ran up behind her, knocked her to the ground, and grabbed the purse she was carrying on her right shoulder. She told the officers the suspects then ran away with her IPhone, wallet, cash, and credit cards, before jumping into a Black colored vehicle. While talking to the victim, a citizen called dispatch from a location a short distance away reporting that a man got out of a Black vehicle and threw some items, which turned out to be the victim’s property, into a garbage can. Shortly thereafter, Bayview Officers Gummo, Guzman, and Dizo stopped a car, with two men, on Potrero Hill matching the description given by the robbery victim. The victim was transported to the scene and identified one of the occupants as the man who robbed her. He was transported to Ingleside Station and booked for robbery. The other occupant was released. Report number: 130357832

As the victim proceeded to cross the intersection, the suspect ran towards him and confronted him. The suspect then reached into his waistband and said, “Give me your bag!. The victim believed the suspect was reaching for a gun and fearing for his safety, handed over his messanger bag. The suspect grabbed the bag and fled on foot last seen going northbound on Edinburgh Street. The victim was not injured and went home to call for the police.
