Weather related crime alert; with the current nice weather and increased temperature, some people are leaving their windows open in an effort to keep their residences cooler inside. Be extra careful, especially when you leave your home and leave the windows unsecured. Burglars are always looking for the easiest way inside your home. Don’t give them that opportunity for the easy access. Make sure to secure these entry points and leave them locked when you are not around.

Public Safety; In light of recent events at the Boston marathon, the police department will be increasing patrols in areas where the public gather including special events. If you see a suspicious package that does not look right or does not belong in the area, do not investigate it yourself. Create a safe distance between you and the suspicious package and do not use your cell phone to call the police. Use a landline to call “911” and provide your location and if possible the description of the package. Officers will be dispatched to assess the situation and take the appropriate action.

Arrests:

5:05am       Alemany/Mt Vernon               Loaded Firearm/Drugs
Officers Seavey and Padilla were on patrol near the area of Geneva and Mission Street, when they noticed a Black vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed. The officers followed the vehicle from a distance and noticed that the vehicle kept making turns and driving in circles. A couple times, the officers noticed that the vehicle suddenly stopped in the middle of the street and began observing pedestrians walking along the sidewalk. Being highly suspicious, the officers believed the three occupants inside the vehicle were on the hunt for an unsuspecting robbery victim. The suspects inside continued driving and ran a stop sign. The officers saw enough and conducted a traffic stop. They then spoke to the driver who turned out to be on active probation with a search condition. Officer Seavey searched the driver and found a small baggie containing cocaine. He was immediately placed under arrest. Officer Padilla then spoke to the female passenger, who appeared to be really nervous and clutching her purse with a tight grip. Officer Padilla took hold of the purse and noticed that it was extremely heavy. He grabbed the purse and felt a familiar object inside, which turned out to be a loaded firearm. She was also placed under arrest. A search of the rear passenger turned out clear and was subsequently released. Once the two subjects were transported to Ingleside Station, a more thorough search was conducted. It turns out the female passenger was hiding Marijuana and methamphetamines inside her Brassiere. They both were ultimately booked on numerous felony charges and their vehicle towed. Report Number: 130360982

11:10pm     200 Blk Staples                      Stolen Property/Burglary Tools
Officers Hermosura and Ferronato were dispatched to a stolen vehicle call in the area of Staples and Edna Avenue. The registered owner told dispatch that he had tracked his stolen vehicle to the area using the tracking software inside his Apple Mac Book and Apple Ipad, which were inside the vehicle when it was stolen. When the officers arrived, they found the vehicle and a female passenger sleeping inside. They spoke with the female subject, who said, “I had a bad day and didn’t want to be in my home. I needed a place to cry and I found this car unlocked”.  She was detained while the officers looked into the matter further. While at the scene, the registered owner informed the officers that his Apple Mac Book and Apple Ipad were no longer in the vehicle and was currently tracking them to the area of Geneva and Mission Street. With the help of Officer Sutton, they all responded to the area and located a male suspect walking by himself along Alemany Boulevard. The officers detained the suspect and found the stolen items. The registered owner looked at the items and identified the Mac Book and Ipad as his. The officer searched the suspect and found a Collapsable baton hanging from his waistband as well as three shaved keys, used to open and/or steal multiple makes and models of vehicles. Needless to say, the male suspect was arrested and booked on several charges. The female inside the vehicle was ultimately released at the scene and the vehicle returned to its rightful owner. Report Number: 130363801

The second suspect was on the other side holding a gun tucked next to his hip. The suspects then demanded the victim’s property. Fearing for his life, the victim did just that and handed them his Apple I-touch, ATM cards and $30.00 dollars in cash. At one point, the suspect got close to the victim and said, “I’ll be back for you! I’m gonna go get my peoples and kill you”.  The suspect then reached behind his waistband and told her he had a gun. Although she never saw a gun, the victim said she believed him and feared for her safety. The suspect then walked away. The victim quickly crossed the street and called 911.
