Weather related crime alert; with the current nice weather and increased temperature, some people are leaving their windows open in an effort to keep their residences cooler inside. Be extra careful, especially when you leave your home and leave the windows unsecured. Burglars are always looking for the easiest way inside your home. Don’t give them that opportunity for the easy access. Make sure to secure these entry points and leave them locked when you are not around.

Public Safety; In light of recent events at the Boston marathon, the police department will be increasing patrols in areas where the public gather including special events. If you see a suspicious package that does not look right or does not belong in the area, do not investigate it yourself. Create a safe distance between you and the suspicious package and do not use your cell phone to call the police. Use a landline to call “911” and provide your location and if possible the description of the package. Officers will be dispatched to assess the situation and take the appropriate action.

Arrests:

10:30am        4600 Blk Mission                          Theft
Officers Dove and Pai were sent to a robbery call that just occurred on a MUNI bus while it was stopped at Mission and Persia Avenue. Several Ingleside units responded as well and located the victim. Officer Dove spoke to the victim, who said she was riding on the MUNI bus when it came to a stop at Mission and Persia. She said she was seated towards the rear of the bus listening to music and browsing on her Iphone. When the MUNI doors opened up, an unknown suspect approached her and grabbed her Iphone from her hands and struck her on the face when he did so. The victim thinks the suspect hit her on accident and not intentionally as he reached for the phone. The suspect then exited the bus and fled the scene on foot. She quickly provided the officers with the suspect’s description and said she would be able to identify him. Officer Aslam was thinking on his feet and began to track the victim’s phone immediately. He got a hit, which pinged the phone to the area of 3rd and Shafter. He then notified Bayview officers to respond and provided them with the suspect’s description. Moments later, Sgt Banvik, of Bayview station, notified Officer Aslam that they had detained two suspects and recovered the victim’s phone as well. The victim was taken to the location where she identified one of the subjects as the one who stole her phone. Both subjects were then taken to Ingleside station and interviewed. At the conclusion of the investigation, the one subject was charged with theft and the other for being in possession of stolen property (the Iphone). The victim said she felt pain, but refused any medical treatment. Report Number: 130402039

Serious Incidents:

1:20pm       5200 Blk Mission                             Robbery
Ingleside Officers Clifford and Rueca went to investigate a robbery that took place on the 5200 block of Mission Street. The victim said he was using the cross walk to cross the street at Mission and Mt Vernon Avenue. The victim said he noticed the suspect crossing the street in the opposite direction. In the middle of the crosswalk, as they both crossed paths, the suspect reached out with both hands and grabbed the copper crucifix and metal chain from the victim’s neck. The suspect then fled running away westbound on Mt Vernon Avenue. The victim chased after the suspect and was able to catch up to him, but the suspect turned around and punched the victim in the face. The victim was not fazed and fought back taking the suspect down to the ground and dropping the chain in the process. He then grabbed onto the suspect’s hair preventing him from getting up. The suspect yelled out for mercy by yelling, “OK, OK”. The victim then got up and went to retrieve his chain. The suspect got up and fled the area. While providing the officers with the information, the victim noticed that he still had a few strands of the suspect’s hair stuck in his hand from when he pulled on his hair. The officers collected the hair as evidence. The victim said he was not hurt in the incident. Report Number: 130402619
