Weather related crime alert; with the current nice weather and increased temperature, some people are leaving their windows open in an effort to keep their residences cooler inside. Be extra careful, especially when you leave your home and leave the windows unsecured. Burglars are always looking for the easiest way inside your home. Don’t give them that opportunity for the easy access. Make sure to secure these entry points and leave them locked when you are not around.

Public Safety; In light of recent events at the Boston marathon, the police department will be increasing patrols in areas where the public gather including special events. If you see a suspicious package that does not look right or does not belong in the area, do not investigate it yourself. Create a safe distance between you and the suspicious package and do not use your cell phone to call the police. Use a landline to call “911” and provide your location and if possible the description of the package. Officers will be dispatched to assess the situation and take the appropriate action.

Arrests:

2:37pm       San Jose/30th                 D.U.I
Officers Villaruel and Walsh as well as several other Ingleside Units responded to a traffic collision with possible injuries at San Jose and 30th Street. Fire personnel responded as well and had to extract one of the parties from their vehicle. When they extracted the driver, fire and medic personnel could immediately smell alcohol on his breath. According to the other party involved (victim) and several witnesses, the suspect driver ran a Red light at the intersection and collided with the victim. The suspect then tried to flee the scene headed southbound San Jose Avenue at a high rate of speed. The suspect then jumped the center concrete median and onto oncoming traffic, driving southbound in the northbound lanes. The driver then returned back over to the southbound side before crossing over again and finally colliding into a MUNI power pole. Luckily, he did not collide with any other vehicles or pedestrians. Medics transported the suspect to the local hospital for injuries he sustained in the accident. Officer Villaruel went to the hospital to speak with the suspect, but could not because he had a heavy, thick and very slurred speech. After the investigation, it was concluded that the suspect was driving under the influence of alcohol and was arrested. He was booked for the D.U.I as well as other traffic violations. Report Number: 130399533

9:30pm       100 Blk Marsily            Assault
Officers Lockett and Sutton responded to an auto boosting in progress on the 100 block of Marsily Street. While en-route, dispatch told the officers that the suspect had been chased down by a citizen to Mission and Bosworth Avenue and was currently being held down until police arrived. Once they arrived, they spoke to the witness who said he heard a loud noise outside, which sounded like metal hitting the ground. The witness said he’s aware of several auto burglaries which have taken place in the neighborhood, so he went to check on his daughter’s vehicle, which was parked outside. While looking outside, the witness saw an unknown suspect crouching down next to his neighbor’s work truck. He confronted the suspect who began to walk away discarding tools along the way. The witness gave chase following the suspect down to Mission and Bosworth Avenue. The suspect then tried to hit the witness with a hammer and missed. The witness tackled the suspect to the ground and held him down until the police arrived. The officers located the owner of the truck, who identified all the tools that were discarded by the suspect as his property. Suffice to say, the suspect was booked for assault and theft. Report Number: 130400942

Serious Incidents:

9:05pm       400 Blk Geneva            Theft
Officers Lustenberger and Chew were dispatched to a possible robbery at the Balboa BART Station located at San Jose and Geneva Avenue. The victim said she was standing at the MUNI bus stop along Geneva Avenue, when suddenly; an unknown suspect grabbed her cell phone out of her hand and ran. She said the whole thing happened so fast that she did not have a chance to react and only saw as the suspect as he was getting away. The suspect ran eastbound on Geneva towards San Jose Avenue. The victim went to the BART Station and asked the attendant to call the police. The victim said she was not hurt. Several units searched the area to no avail. Report Number: 130400845
