Arrests:
12:33pm Unit Blk Prentiss Burglary
Officers Hurwitz and Rueca responded to a call of a possible burglary in progress. It was said that a male had entered a back yard of a house on the unit block of Prentiss Street and was trying to kick down the back door. The officers spoke to the residents who said they were home at the time when the incident occurred. The wife saw a male jump over their back fence and into their yard and tried opening the back door. The wife immediately told her husband what was occurring. The suspect couldn’t get the back door open, so he exited the yard by jumping back over the fence and leaving behind a pair of sneakers, a conch shell and a pair of pliers. The residents led the officers to the back yard and showed them the items and where the suspect was last seen. The officers peered over the fence and saw a subject about 50 feet away who matched the description. The suspect spotted the officers and ran from the scene. The officers gave chase broadcasting the suspect description and direction of travel at the same time. Officer Preston, who was in the immediate area, followed the radio transmission and located the suspect, taking him into custody. A computer check on the suspect revealed he had four outstanding warrants for his arrest as well. CSI was called out to collect the items left behind for DNA. The suspect was booked on numerous charged including attempted burglary as well as all the warrants. Report Number 130029978. **********Best arrest of the Day**********
6:07pm Unit Blk Danton Firearm
Officers Johnson, Hom, Almaguer and Sgt Alvarez were on duty when they responded to a home on the unit block of Danton Street to conduct a probation search. The officers knew that the suspect who lived there was on active felony probation. When they arrived, they met with a family member who said the suspect was out having dinner. The officers advised what they were there for and the family member let them inside leading them to the suspect’s room. The officers proceeded with the search and located two rifles in an open closet. They also came across a safe that could only be opened by a digital combination and key. The officers asked the family member to contact the suspect and have him return to the residence. After a short conversation, the suspect agreed to return. When the suspect arrived, he told the officers that the gun in the safe belonged to a friend. After opening the safe, the officers in fact located a loaded revolver and several boxes of ammunition. The officer placed the suspect under arrest and seized all the guns and ammunition. The suspect was booked accordingly in County Jail.
