San Francisco Police Statement on Las
Vegas Tragedy and
Fleet Week
Preparations
The men and
women of the San Francisco Police Department offer their condolences to those
impacted by Sunday’s tragedy in Las Vegas.
As the City
begins a week of special events, we want to reassure the public that we are
working with our local and federal partners to provide a safe environment for
everyone. The public can expect to see a visible police presence including
officers on foot, motorcycle, on horseback and in patrol cars at the various events
around the City.
The
Department has staffed up for this week’s events with no discretionary time off
allowed for SFPD officers. District stations will be staffed and we will have
additional resources on hand for any spontaneous events. There are no known
threats to the City or any special events. As always, we remind everyone, “If
you see something, say something.” Call 911 to report suspicious activity or
crimes in progress.
Arrests:
12:12am Mission & Onondaga Assault
of Police Officer
The
driver of a PT Cruiser, which was driving erratically, caught the attention of
Ingleside Officers Mroz, Espinosa, and Anton. The officers activated their
emergency lights and stopped the driver near Mission and Onondaga. Officer Mroz
asked the driver for his license, insurance, and registration. He refused. The
officer asked the driver to turn off the ignition and remove the key. He again
refused and started arguing with the officer. Mroz then reached through the
window to turn off the ignition, but the driver rolled up the window pinning Officer
Mroz’s arm. The officer was finally able to push the window down and, with the
help of Espinosa and Anton, open the door and pull the suspect from the vehicle.
He was still combative once out of the car and all three officers struggled to
place him in handcuffs. He was finally subdued, arrested, and taken to the
County Jail where he was booked for resisting arrest, assault of a police
officer, and other crimes. Report number: 170800164
