                        DUI Saturation Patrols
This Thursday
San
Francisco Police Department’s Traffic Unit will be conducting DUI saturation
patrols on Thursday, January 19, 2017 between the hours of 7:00 P.M. and 3:00
A.M. Research shows that crashes involving an impaired driver can be reduced by
up to 20 percent when well-publicized DUI checkpoints and proactive DUI patrols
are conducted routinely.
Officers
will be looking for signs of alcohol and/or drug impairment by checking drivers
for proper licensing, delaying motorists only momentarily. When possible,
specially trained officers will be available to evaluate those suspected of
drug-impaired driving. Recent statistics reveal that 30 percent of drivers in
fatal crashes had one or more drugs in their systems. A study of active drivers
showed more tested positive for drugs that may impair driving (14 percent) than
did for alcohol (7.3 percent). Of the drugs, marijuana was most prevalent, at
7.4 percent, slightly more than alcohol.
Drivers
caught driving impaired can expect the impact of a DUI arrest to include jail
time, fines, fees, DUI classes, other expenses that can exceed $10,000, not to
mention the embarrassment when friends and family find out.
Funding for
this checkpoint is provided to the San Francisco Police Department by a grant
from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway
Traffic Safety Administration, reminding everyone to ‘Report Drunk Drivers –
Call 9-1-1’.

Arrests:
12:05pm     Toland
& Evans                     Stolen Vehicle
A cell phone app helped Ingleside and Bayview officers capture
a car thief. Ingleside Officers Cassinelli and Watts traveled to an address on
Geneva to talk to a car thief victim. The victim’s friend said he was tracking
the stolen vehicle on an “app” and gave the phone to the officers so they could
begin the pursuit. Cassinelli and Watts advised Ingleside and Bayview units as
the stolen car wandered out of the district and eventually stopped by several officers
at Toland and Evans Street. The driver was arrested for auto theft and his
passenger was released at the scene. Report number: 170033428

A vehicle speeding through stop signs caught the attention
of Ingleside Officers Scott and Hardy. The officers followed the vehicle for a
short distance before stopping it at a nearby parking lot. The driver exited
the vehicle and refused to show any identification. He did provide the officers
with his name and a records check revealed he was driving with a suspended
license and had several convictions for the same offense. He became combative
when told by officers that he was being arrested. After a brief struggle,
involving several officers, he was placed in custody and successfully taken to
Ingleside Station. Report number: 170034921
