Arrests:

12:06pm     Geneva/Santos                                 Air Gun

It’s one of the most stressful calls an officer can respond too; a man standing on the corner with a rifle in his hands and a handgun in his rear waistband. Ingleside Officers Lee, Custodio, Adams, Sgt. Kumli, along with a Brisbane officer responded to the scene. When they officers arrived they saw an individual holding what looked like an AR-15 assault rifle. He also had a handgun in his waistband along with a knife. The officers, showing great restraint in the face of imminent danger, ordered the man to drop the weapons and get on the ground to which he complied. Bystanders yelled at the officers that the weapons were “fake”. But, replica firearms are required to have an orange tip distinguishing them from real weapons. These weapons did not so the officers had to assume they were real. An inspection of the weapons confirmed they were replicas which should have had the required orange tips. However, even with the orange tip, replica weapons are illegal in San Francisco but are legal in San Mateo County. The suspect was cited for displaying an imitation firearm in a public place. He was taken to St. Lukes Hospital for a mental health evaluation. Report number: 150869215
