Chief Gregory Suhr
The
City and County of San Francisco invites you to join a highly respected police
department and serve the citizens of one of the most beautiful cities in the
country. San Francisco Police Officers perform a wide variety of duties to
promote public safety and security, prevent crime and enforce the law. Police
officers perform a number of essential functions. For example, they patrol
districts to prevent and detect crime; respond to calls for assistance; conduct
criminal investigations; interact with the community to build cooperation and
support; pursue and arrest suspects; enforce traffic and parking laws; write
reports and maintain records; work with superiors, peers, and others as a team;
prepare for and participate in planned events; prepare for court and give
testimony; and fulfill other administrative duties when required. This is much
more than a job; it is an opportunity to build a career of which you can be
proud.
This is a case of mistaken assumptions and, for one victim,
being in the wrong place at the wrong time. It all started when two men stopped
at a restaurant to get some lunch. One of the men went inside to order food
while the other stayed outside on the sidewalk. The man outside was suddenly
confronted by another man who put a knife to his throat, saying “Give me my
phone”! The victim said he didn’t know
what he was talking about. The victim’s friend, who was in the restaurant
ordering lunch, saw the confrontation, and ran outside with a can of pepper
spray and doused the suspect in the face. The suspect, unable to see, started
wildly swinging the knife around in all directions trying to strike the
victims. One victim put the suspect in an arm lock to disable him. However,
that didn’t totally work because the suspect, trying to break free, stabbed
himself in the leg. Just then, Ingleside Officers Zasly, Mora, and Burke
arrived on scene and quickly separated the two combatants, placing the knife
wielding suspect in custody. Shortly thereafter medics arrived to attend to the
suspect and then transported him to San Francisco General for further
treatment. He was interviewed there and told the officers that he was making a
delivery in the area and left his cell phone in his unlocked truck. When he
returned the phone was gone and he assumed that the two men at the restaurant
were the thieves. It turned out they were not. However, a computer query of one
of the victim’s revealed that he had three warrants for his arrest, including
two for theft. He was arrested for the warrants and the knife wielding suspect
was arrested for aggravated assault. Report number:150769790
