Traffic Safety Enforcement Operations Plan for
San Francisco with OTS Grant

The San Francisco Police Department will conduct Traffic Safety Enforcement Operations on June 1st, 9th, 12th, 20th and 27th with a focus on bicycle and pedestrian safety. Over the past three years, the department has identified areas where significant numbers of pedestrian and bicycle-related collisions have occurred and responded by deploying additional officers to those areas in an effort to prevent deaths and injuries. Special attention will be given to Focus on the Five violations: excessive and unsafe speed, unsafe turns, failure to stop for signs and signals, failure to yield to pedestrians in cross walks, as well as any other dangerous violation.

San Francisco is committed to eliminating traffic deaths on our streets by 2024 as part of Vision Zero SF. Vision Zero SF is our city’s commitment to prioritize safe streets for everyone.

Bicycle and pedestrian fatalities are rising in California as more people use these non-motorized means of transportation. In 2013, California witnessed 701 pedestrians and 141 bicyclists killed, accounting for more than 28 percent of all traffic fatalities.

All riders are reminded to always wear a helmet – those under 18 years of age must wear helmets by law. Pedestrians should cross the street only in marked or unmarked crosswalks at corners. All motorists are reminded to be mindful of others who share the road.

Funding for this program is provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Arrests:

1:35am                          Unit Blk. Brookdale                  Warrant
A man with a $600,000 arrest warrant was arrested by Ingleside officers Mroz and Sherry. The suspect was discovered hiding under a bed in a home on Brookdale Avenue. The warrant was for several crimes including burglary and arson. He was transported back to Ingleside Station where he was held for the warrants. Report number: 170237498

1:30pm                          200 Blk. Drake                         Malicious Mischief
A woman walking back home observed a suspect punch her parked vehicle several times. She told Ingleside officers Peralta and Reggi she estimated the damage to her vehicle of around $2000. She gave Peralta and Reggi a description of the suspect and a short time later Ingleside officers Vong and Leong arrested the suspect at Geneva and Munich for felony vandalism and took him to Ingleside Station after the victim signed a citizen’s arrest form. Meanwhile, because of a medical condition, the suspect was released from the charges to the custody of his mother who also lives on the 200 block of Drake Street. The victim’s mother told Peralta and Reggi a different version of the incident. She said her son was walking across the street and almost hit by the victim who was driving by. She said the victim yelled at her son. The mother also said that her son walked over to the victim’s vehicle but she did not observe any vandalism. Report number: 170454482
