Traffic
Safety Enforcement Operations Plan for
San
Francisco with OTS Grant
The San Francisco Police Department will conduct Traffic
Safety Enforcement Operations on June 1st, 9th, 12th, 20th and 27th with a
focus on bicycle and pedestrian safety. Over the past three years, the
department has identified areas where significant numbers of pedestrian and
bicycle-related collisions have occurred and responded by deploying additional
officers to those areas in an effort to prevent deaths and injuries. Special
attention will be given to Focus on the Five violations: excessive and unsafe
speed, unsafe turns, failure to stop for signs and signals, failure to yield to
pedestrians in cross walks, as well as any other dangerous violation.
San Francisco is committed to eliminating traffic deaths on
our streets by 2024 as part of Vision Zero SF. Vision Zero SF is our city’s
commitment to prioritize safe streets for everyone.
Bicycle and pedestrian fatalities are rising in California
as more people use these non-motorized means of transportation. In 2013,
California witnessed 701 pedestrians and 141 bicyclists killed, accounting for
more than 28 percent of all traffic fatalities.
All riders are reminded to always wear a helmet – those
under 18 years of age must wear helmets by law. Pedestrians should cross the
street only in marked or unmarked crosswalks at corners. All motorists are
reminded to be mindful of others who share the road.
Funding for this program is provided by a grant from the
California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety
Administration.

Sunnydale & Santos Warrant
A car owner called police after spotting his vehicle that was
stolen earlier in the day. The owner told Ingleside officers Mora and Naser
that he found the Honda Pilot in a parking near
at
Sunnydale and Santos. He said his home security system had video of the thieves
and the car they drove. Mora and Naser, followed by the victim, started driving
to the parking lot to retrieve the vehicle. While enroute the victim alerted
the officers that the suspect’s car was driving ahead of them. The officers
pulled the vehicle over and questioned the two men who are brothers. A computer
check revealed the driver was wanted on two felony warrants from a San
Francisco court. He was arrested and taken to Ingleside Station for booking. Report

Mission & Onondaga Robbery
A call of a fight involving juveniles prompted dispatch to
send Ingleside officers Hornstein and Zubko to investigate. When they arrived
on scene they discovered it wasn’t a fight but a robbery. The 17 year old
victim told the officers that a group of students surrounded her, hit her
several times in the head, and took her cell phone. The suspects escaped by
boarding an inbound #14 Muni bus. An ambulance arrived which transported the
victim to San Francisco General for treatment. Report number: 170502520
