DUI
Saturation Patrols Today
San
Francisco Police Department’s Traffic Unit will be conducting DUI saturation
patrols today, Friday, May 19th, 2017 between the hours of 7:00
P.M. and 3:00 A.M. Research shows that crashes involving an impaired driver can
be reduced by up to 20 percent when well-publicized DUI checkpoints and proactive
DUI patrols are conducted routinely.
Officers
will be looking for signs of alcohol and/or drug impairment by checking drivers
for proper licensing, delaying motorists only momentarily. When possible,
specially trained officers will be available to evaluate those suspected of
drug-impaired driving. Recent statistics reveal that 30 percent of drivers in
fatal crashes had one or more drugs in their systems. A study of active drivers
showed more tested positive for drugs that may impair driving (14 percent) than
did for alcohol (7.3 percent). Of the drugs, marijuana was most prevalent, at
7.4 percent, slightly more than alcohol.
Drivers
caught driving impaired can expect the impact of a DUI arrest to include jail
time, fines, fees, DUI classes, other expenses that can exceed $10,000, not to
mention the embarrassment when friends and family find out.
Funding for
this checkpoint is provided to the San Francisco Police Department by a grant
from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway
Traffic Safety Administration, reminding everyone to ‘Report Drunk Drivers –
Call 9-1-1’.
Arrests:
7:39pm Topaz & Goldmine Warrant Arrest
Ingleside
Officers Scott and Hardy were on routine patrol when they noticed an older
Honda parked at the cliff overlook. A computer check of the Honda revealed it
registered to a man with an outstanding $50,000 San Francisco warrant. Officer
Hardy got out of his patrol car and tapped on the driver’s window asking, are
you the man with this warrant? The driver admitted he was. He was removed and
placed in custody. A search of the vehicle revealed a quantity of cocaine hidden
in the driver’s storage tray. The suspect was taken to Ingleside Station and
booked for the warrant and the narcotic. Report number: 170388104
Serious Incidents:
3:50am Holladay &
Wright Firearm
Ingleside Officers Zubko and Hornstein were dispatched, along
with Bayview officers, to a report of gunshots. The officers found more than
half a dozen shell casings littering the intersection. Witnesses told the
officers they heard the shots but did not see any suspects. Zubko and Hornstein
seized the shell casings and took them to Ingleside Station for evidence.

11:45am Lyell & Still Attempted Robbery
A woman walked into Bayview Station to report a robbery that
occurred the night before in the Ingleside District. She told Ingleside Officers
Hawes and Hill that she was walking northbound on Lyell Street when she noticed
a man walking southbound on the same street. As the man passed he grabbed her
purse and tried to pull it from her grasp. However, the victim was strong
enough to resist and when a witness started yelling at the robber to stop his
attack, the robber fled southbound on Lyell. Report number: 170388223
