Arrests:2:49pm 900 Blk. Rutland NarcoticsTwo men enjoying beers while standing on the sidewalk caught the attention of Ingleside Officers Hopkins, Campos, and Laokwansathitaya. The officers stopped to warn the trio to not to drink on the street. During the course of the conversation the officers determined that one of the men was on probation out of San Mateo County for a narcotics violation. A search of the suspects clothing found multiple packets of methamphetamine. He was cited for possession and released at the scene. Report number: 1700096459:51pm Brazil & La Grande Burglary ToolsOne of the tricks of the trade for car thieves and other suspects is to use a paper plate to cover up the appropriate license plate on a vehicle. All officers are aware of this ruse. On this evening Ingleside Officers Garza and Cubas, while on patrol, spotted a late model Chevy Impala with paper plates. There were three men inside. The officers approached the Chevy and asked the driver for his license and registration. He couldn’t provide any. The front seat passenger was in the same situation, no identification to provide the officers. The driver said he purchased the car from “someone who lives in the neighborhood”. All the occupants did provide names and the officers went back to their patrol car to run the names through the department’s information system. As they reached the patrol car, Impala’s doors suddenly swung open, and two of the three occupants took off running. Garza and Cuba radioed for assistance and started chasing the suspects. Both were apprehended after a brief chase, brought back to the patrol car, and placed in handcuffs in the back seat. The officers discovered the paper plate and the obscured license plate did not belong to the Chevy. The Chevy was a rental vehicle. The officers also found a punch used to break vehicle windows and a prohibited weapon, a butterfly knife, on one of the suspects. He did not have a criminal record. He was cited for possession of burglary tools, possession of a switchblade knife, resisting arrest, and other crimes and released at the scene. The other two occupants were released at the scene without charges.
