DUI
Saturation Patrols This Friday
San
Francisco Police Department’s Traffic Unit will be conducting DUI saturation
patrols on Friday, December 30, 2016 between the hours of 7:00 P.M. and 3:00
A.M. Research shows that crashes involving an impaired driver can be reduced by
up to 20 percent when well-publicized DUI checkpoints and proactive DUI patrols
are conducted routinely.
Officers
will be looking for signs of alcohol and/or drug impairment by checking drivers
for proper licensing, delaying motorists only momentarily. When possible,
specially trained officers will be available to evaluate those suspected of
drug-impaired driving. Recent statistics reveal that 30 percent of drivers in
fatal crashes had one or more drugs in their systems. A study of active drivers
showed more tested positive for drugs that may impair driving (14 percent) than
did for alcohol (7.3 percent). Of the drugs, marijuana was most prevalent, at
7.4 percent, slightly more than alcohol.
Drivers
caught driving impaired can expect the impact of a DUI arrest to include jail
time, fines, fees, DUI classes, other expenses that can exceed $10,000, not to
mention the embarrassment when friends and family find out. Funding for this
checkpoint is provided to the San Francisco Police Department by a grant from
the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic
Safety Administration, reminding everyone to ‘Report Drunk Drivers – Call ‘9-1-1’.

Blk. Mission Narcotics
Ingleside Officers Hopkins, Campos, and Laokwansathitaya
decided to visit a business address that has a history of repeated arrests for
narcotics, robberies, and violent crimes. Inside they noticed a man who they
had arrested numerous times before for methamphetamine and other narcotic
violations. He was on probation and inside one of his pockets was a clear
bottle of methamphetamine powder. He was arrested and transported back to
Ingleside Station for booking. Report number: 161031699

Blk. Alemany D.U.I
A motorist dialed 911 from his car telling dispatch that a hit
and run suspect was pounding on his window, pulling his door handle, trying to
get into the car. Ingleside Officers Cassinelli, Watts, Campos, Hopkins, and
other units responded and when they arrived they ordered the suspect away from
the other vehicle. The motorist who called police told the officers that he was
rear ended by the suspect a few blocks away. When he motioned to the other driver
to pull over so they could exchange information, the suspect made a “U” turn
and sped off in the opposite direction. The victim followed and the suspect
pulled over, but blocked the victim’s car, then exited his vehicle and began
confronting the other motorist. That’s when the victim called police. The
officers noticed the suspect had slurred speech, bloodshot eyes, and had
trouble walking. He failed a roadside sobriety test and the officers obtained a
search warrant so that a blood alcohol test could be conducted by the
department’s phlebotomist at Mission Station. From there, the suspect was
transported to the county jail and booked for D.U.I. Report number: 1161032506

he was talking to on the phone. The suspect started slowing down as the woman walked
past him nearing her home. Suddenly she felt her hair being pulled from behind and
a hand reached around from the back and covered her mouth. The suspect said,
