SAN FRANCISCO POLICE DEPARTMENT TAKING BACK UNWANTED
                                           PRESCRIPTION DRUGS

On October 22, 2016 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. the San Francisco Police Department and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) will give the public another opportunity to prevent pill abuse and theft by ridding their homes of potentially dangerous expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs. Bring your medications for disposal to any San Francisco Police Department District Station. The service is free and anonymous, no questions asked.

This initiative addresses a vital public safety and public health issue. Medicines that languish in home cabinets are highly susceptible to diversion, misuse, and abuse. Rates of prescription drug abuse in the U.S. are alarmingly high, as are the number of accidental poisonings and overdoses due to these drugs. Studies show that a majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, including from the home medicine cabinet. In addition, Americans are now advised that their usual methods for disposing of unused medicines—flushing them down the toilet or throwing them in the trash—both pose potential safety and health hazards.

Arrests:

12:36pm     100 Blk Bache                        Recovered Vehicle
A citizen called police about a suspicious activity. He came home and noticed two people spray painting an older Honda on the street near his home. Ingleside Officers Ocreto and Neuerburg responded and parked behind the now blue Honda. As they approached the vehicle, the Honda suddenly sped away leaving one of the suspects standing in the street. He was immediately placed in custody. During a search of his clothing the officers discovered a knife like weapon along with shaved keys used to steal vehicles. A short time later, Ingleside Officer Baldovino found the Honda at Ellert and Bocana Streets. It had been reported stolen earlier from an address in the Taraval District. Witnesses said a young woman fled from the vehicle and ran into Holly Park where she was captured a short time later. The same witnesses positively identified both suspects as the pair who were painting the stolen Honda. A search of the woman’s clothing turned up a quantity of methamphetamine. She was also wanted on an outstanding warrant for her arrest. Both suspects were transported to Ingleside Station and booked for vehicle theft and other crimes. Report number: 160840283

Serious Incidents:

10:38am     1900 Blk Sunnydale               Assault w/gun
Ingleside Officers Christ and Chang were on an unrelated call for service when they heard gunshots in the area. Christ and Chang notified dispatch and went to the 1900 block of Sunnydale where the shot spotter program pinpointed the area of the shots. The officers found no evidence but, they did find a witness who told the officers that shortly before their arrival her boyfriend was out at the curb by his car when her ex-boyfriend drove up. An argument ensued and the ex-boyfriend took out a weapon and shot several times at the fleeing current boyfriend. Fortunately, no one was struck by the flying bullets. Report number: 160840532
