The suspects quickly approached the victim from behind, pushed him to the ground, and began kicking and punching him in the head numerous times. He told Ingleside officers Phillips and Hart that while taking a break in front of the store he saw three men walking toward him one of whom was a suspected shoplifter. Two of the men walked up to the guard and challenged him to a fight. The guard declined. Then the men started pushing the guard with their hands and the guard pushed back until one of the men took out a bottle and hit the guard on the left cheek with such force that the bottle shattered. The guard grabbed one of the suspects and put him in a head hold, but the other suspect continued the assault, punching the guard in the nose with his fist.
