He told Ingleside officers Phillips and Hart that while taking a break in front of the store he saw three men walking toward him one of whom was a suspected shoplifter. Two of the men walked up to the guard and challenged him to a fight. The guard declined. Then the men started pushing the guard with their hands and the guard pushed back until one of the men took out a bottle and hit the guard on the left cheek with such force that the bottle shattered. The guard grabbed one of the suspects and put him in a head hold, but the other suspect continued the assault, punching the guard in the nose with his fist.
