20-hour training, taught by First Responders, includes personal preparedness,
light search and rescue, disaster medicine, shutting off your utilities, and
how to participate as a member of a neighborhood response team. NERT also offers continuing training for
graduates and activities that support building robust neighborhood teams. For more information, visit the NERT website

Are you someone who is interested in disaster preparedness and wants to help out your community while working hand in hand with law enforcement? Then the ALERT program is for you!
What is the
A.L.E.R.T. Program?
The San Francisco Police Department has developed a
volunteer citizen disaster preparedness program. The Auxiliary Law Enforcement
Response Team (ALERT) is modeled after and works in partnership with the San
Francisco Fire Department's Neighborhood Emergency Response Team (NERT). The
ALERT program will train members of the public to assist law enforcement in
essential tasks after a major disaster. Such tasks may include: traffic
control, foot patrol of business and residential areas, and reporting criminal
activity. Volunteers must be at least 16 years of age and live, work, or attend
high school in San Francisco.
Three steps to becoming an
A.L.E.R.T. volunteer:
1. Complete NERT training and receive
certification. To register for NERT training courses please visit www.sfgov.org/sfnert
2. Once NERT certified, forward a copy
of your NERT ID card to the ALERT program. sfpdalert@sfov.org
3. After clearing a basic background
check the individual is eligible to register for ALERT training.

Blk Peralta Child Neglect
A four year old rang the doorbell of a neighbor’s home and
said “My dad went to the bank real fast and I need someone to take care of me”.
The neighbors went next door and found no one home. They called police and
Ingleside Officers Del Gandio along with Sgt. Martin and Officers Hermosura and
Noble arrived. The officers were talking to the child when the boy’s father
returned home. The officers noted the odor of alcohol on his breath and
admitted he had been drinking that night. He said he left the boy at home alone
while he went to his nearby business. The officers took him to Ingleside
Station and booked him for child neglect. The young boy’s mother returned home
from out of town and took custody of her son. Report number: 140837987

Blk Amethyst Robbery
Ingleside Officers Quema and Hermosura investigated a report
of a robbery. The victim told the officers that earlier that evening a friend
arranged a ride home for him from Clement Street where he had been that
evening. He told the officers he was too
drunk to remember the exact location on Clement Street. Two men, in a late
model Mercedes, picked him up and drove him home. When they arrived, the victim
got out of the car and walked into his garage followed by the driver and his
accomplice. The two demanded $280 from
the victim for the ride. When the victim refused, one of the men took out a
collapsible baton and struck the victim on the jaw. The victim fell to the ground and the two
suspects removed his jewelry, a wallet, and an IPhone before escaping in their
car. The victim refused medical attention.

Blk Sawyer Attempted Robbery
A man walking home was confronted by three men as he neared
his house. One suspect stood behind him and the other two stood in front
blocking his path. One suspect then balled up his fist and swung at the victim
who ducked and then fell to the ground. While on the ground he heard something
fall next to him. It was a handgun which was quickly retrieved by one of the suspects
before all three ran down Sawyer towards Sunrise Way. The victim, who was
uninjured, ran home and called police. Report number: 140841392
