Recently, a flyer was distributed to the community regarding scams targeting the monolingual Chinese.  These scams involve telling the victim that an evil spirit is following them.  They will ask the victim to bring valuables to pray over as an offering to the spirit. They will return to the victim what is believed to be their valuables. They will ask the victim not to look at their valuables for a day.  When the victim later checks their valuables, they find that the valuables were not returned by the suspects.

We urge all person(s) confronted with this scam to call 911 as this is a crime in progress.  By contacting 911, you greatly increase the chance of catching the suspect(s) so that the police can make an arrest.  If someone approaches you with this scam, decline their help, call 911 immediately and report it to the police.  Be a good witness.  Obtain a description of the suspect(s) and/or vehicles they are driving.

The San Francisco Neighborhood Emergency Response Team (NERT) is free training from the San Francisco Fire Department in how to help yourself and your neighbors prepare for and respond to a disaster by working together.  NERT will be holding several training sessions during the months of June and July.  The 20-hour training, taught by First Responders, includes personal preparedness, light search and rescue, disaster medicine, shutting off your utilities, and how to participate as a member of a neighborhood response team.  Citizens may take the NERT training outside of their neighborhoods, as it fits into their schedules.  Register on Eventbrite:  http://bit.ly/y4R3nd or call (415) 970-2024.

Officers Dove and Tam responded to assist the victim of a robbery.  The victim was very shaken up and had visible bruising and swelling on his facial area.  An ambulance was immediately summoned to the scene, and the victim was transported to the hospital.  The victim provided a vague description of the suspects and suspect vehicle.  Several Ingleside officers canvassed the area to no avail.

Officers Dove and Tam responded to the hospital.  The victim told them the he was walking home when he was approached by a male suspects who asked him for money.  He gave him a dollar bill.  Suddenly, the suspect, and two other suspects who appeared, began punching and hitting him repeatedly.  They searched his pockets and grabbed his cellular phone from his hand.  The suspects then boarded a red vehicle and fled the area.  The victim said he would be unable to identify them if he saw them again.  The officers took pictures of the victim’s injuries which they later booked into evidence.  Report Number 130476153

Officers Cross and Pai were on patrol when they observed a male walking down the street with blood running down his nose.  The officers stopped to ask the victim if he was okay and he told them he had just been assaulted.  An ambulance was called to treat the victim.  The victim said that he was sleeping in his encampment area when he was awoken by a male swinging an umbrella at him.  The suspect repeatedly hit the victim with the object until the victim fell to the ground.  The suspect then grabbed the victim’s wallet from his rear pocket, and the fled the scene.  The victim said he would be able to recognize the suspect if he saw him again. 

Officers responded to the encampment area in search of physical evidence, but were unable to locate any.  They took pictures of the victim’s injuries and booked them into evidence.  Report Number 130474470
