JUST A REMINDER:  Schools are out for summer session.  Please pay extra attention when driving around parks and playgrounds as children will be out all hours of the day.

Recently, a flyer was distributed to the community regarding scams targeting the monolingual Chinese.  These scams involve telling the victim that an evil spirit is following them.  They will ask the victim to bring valuables to pray over as an offering to the spirit. They will return to the victim what is believed to be their valuables. They will ask the victim not to look at their valuables for a day.  When the victim later checks their valuables, they find that the valuables were not returned by the suspects.

We urge all person(s) confronted with this scam to call 911 as this is a crime in progress.  By contacting 911, you greatly increase the chance of catching the suspect(s) so that the police can make an arrest.  If someone approaches you with this scam, decline their help, call 911 immediately and report it to the police.  Be a good witness.  Obtain a description of the suspect(s) and/or vehicles they are driving.

The San Francisco Neighborhood Emergency Response Team (NERT) is free training from the San Francisco Fire Department in how to help yourself and your neighbors prepare for and respond to a disaster by working together.  NERT will be holding several training sessions during the months of June and July.  The 20-hour training, taught by First Responders, includes personal preparedness, light search and rescue, disaster medicine, shutting off your utilities, and how to participate as a member of a neighborhood response team.  Citizens may take the NERT training outside of their neighborhoods, as it fits into their schedules.  Register on Eventbrite:  http://bit.ly/y4R3nd or call (415) 970-2024.

CRIME ALERT: Increase in recent trend of robberies and thefts in and around the Balboa BART Station and City College area

*Do not store or carry your phones in your back pocket, people will know you have one.
*Have (415)553-8090 programmed in your cell phone to contact SF 911 directly.
*If you see any suspicious activity involving you or others, or see someone needing help

Arrests:

1:10am       900 Blk Geneva   Recovered Vehicle
Ingleside Officers Chew and Lustenberger were on patrol when they noticed two men quickly exit a white Honda, on the 900 block of Geneva.  The suspects left the engine running and headlights on. The officers pulled up behind the vehicle and detained the driver and passenger in a nearby doorways. A DMV inquiry revealed the Honda was stolen.  A search of the vehicle turned up three shaved keys, known to be used by auto thieves. A record check also showed the driver had several previous arrests for auto theft and receiving stolen property.  Both suspects were transported to Ingleside station and booked. Serious Incidents:

12:29am     Geneva/Santos    Robbery
Ingleside Officer Anderson, along with Sgt. Martin, responded to Geneva and Santos to investigate a robbery. The victim told the officers she was on her way home from work on a Muni bus when her phone rang. She said the ringing of the phone got the attention of a group of suspects who followed her off the bus at Geneva and Santos. The victim started walking eastbound on Geneva toward her home when a male suspect ran up, reached into her jacket pocket, and tried to pull the phone out. After a brief struggle, the unknown suspect took her phone and ran away. The victim said she wasn’t injured in the robbery and refused medical attention. She was unsure if she could recognize the suspects again.  The officers contacted Muni dispatch and ordered a copy of the surveillance video.  Report number: 130493765
