Recently, a flyer was distributed to the community regarding scams targeting the monolingual Chinese.  These scams involve telling the victim that an evil spirit is following them.  They will ask the victim to bring valuables to pray over as an offering to the spirit. They will return to the victim what is believed to be their valuables. They will ask the victim not to look at their valuables for a day.  When the victim later checks their valuables, they find that the valuables were not returned by the suspects.

We urge all person(s) confronted with this scam to call 911 as this is a crime in progress.  By contacting 911, you greatly increase the chance of catching the suspect(s) so that the police can make an arrest.  If someone approaches you with this scam, decline their help, call 911 immediately and report it to the police.  Be a good witness.  Obtain a description of the suspect(s) and/or vehicles they are driving.

Serious Incidents:

8:25am       400 Blk Capistrano      Hot Prowl
Officer Rand was sent to a possible burglary in progress.  Several other Ingleside units responded as backup.  Dispatch broadcasted a description of the suspect and the units saturated the area in search of him.  Officer Rand spoke with the victim who told him that she heard some bumping inside of her garage and when she went to check noticed a duffel bag and jacket in her garage which did not belong to her.  She said she never saw the suspect(s) and he never made any attempt to enter the main living quarters of her home.

Officers searched the area unsuccessfully for the suspect(s).  They met with two witnesses who told them that they observed a male suspect push the cardboard on the garage door in and enter the garage.  They then saw the suspect exit the garage with a laundry bag, which he quickly dropped upon exiting the garage.  Officer Rand inspected the garage area and was unable to locate any sign of forced entry.  CSI was contacted and advised they would not be responding due to the lack of physical evidence.  Report Number 130479652

3:22pm       100 Blk Blythdale       Firearm
Officers Trail, Peregoy and Muro assisted Probation Officers Fonthal and Carvajal on a probation search.  They responded to the address to attempt to locate the individual who was on probation.  They made contact with tenants of the home who assisted in letting them inside.  A protective sweep of the home located a handgun, a magazine and rounds of ammunition.  Next to the weapon, they found a California Identification Card with the name of the individual they were looking for.  They were unable to locate him inside of the premise.

Several individuals inside the home were detained.  They told the officers that the downstairs area where the handgun was found is where the suspect they were looking for resides.  All individuals detained claimed they were unaware that there was a firearm in the home.  Officers took pictures of the home and the area where the weapon was found, which they booked into evidence.  They seized all evidence and contacted CSI who advised they would be responding to process the firearm.  Report Number 130481334
