CRIME ALERT: Increase in recent trend of robberies and thefts in and around the Balboa BART Station and City College area,
Be vigilant of suspicious vehicles pulling up and its occupants asking for directions and/or to use your phone and then fleeing the scene with your property.

Safety Tips:
*Try not to have your Iphone or other property visible for others to see.
*If someone asks to use your phone, advise them you do not have one.
*Do not store or carry your phones in your back pocket, people will know you have one.
*Have (415)553-8090 programmed in your cell phone to contact SF 911 directly.
*If you see any suspicious activity involving you or others, or see someone needing help
Call the police.Crime Alert: Glen Park BART Station and surrounding area; A recent trend in robberies are occurring where suspect(s) are running up behind an unsuspecting victim and proceed to shove or push them to the ground and then forcefully take their cell phone, MP3 player and/or other valuable belongings. If you happen to see what may seem like a fight taking place on the street, it could actually be a robbery taking place. Immediately call (415) 553-8090 from your cell phone or “911” from a landline. Ingleside Police Officers are stepping up their efforts and increasing patrol to the area as well as sending our plain clothes officers to conduct surveillance. Remember, report any crime that you see taking place or anything that looks suspicious.
Weather related safety; Due to the inclement weather involving high winds, there have been numerous downed power lines and fallen tree limbs throughout the city. If there is a power line down in your neighborhood, for your own safety, do not approach it and stay a safe distance away while calling “911”. Our headquarters will dispatch officers as well as the appropriate department to come out and assess the situation and repair the damage. If there is a fallen tree limb, call “311” and request DPW (Department of Public Works) to come out and handle the hazard. Also, be sure to look up to see if there are any broken tree limbs that are hanging from the tree that can pose a threat to people and/or property. Call “311” immediately.
Public Safety; In light of recent events at the Boston marathon, the police department will be increasing patrols in areas where the public gather including special events. If you see a suspicious package that does not look right or does not belong in the area, do not investigate it yourself. Create a safe distance between you and the suspicious package and do not use your cell phone to call the police. Use a landline to call “911” and provide your location and if possible the description of the package. Officers will be dispatched to assess the situation and take the appropriate action.
Arrests:
1:13pm 3100 Blk Mission Drugs
Officers Dun and Archilla were on routine patrol driving down Mission Street when they observed a subject smoking Marijuana from a Marijuana pipe, while on the 3100 block of Mission Street. Upon seeing the officers, the subject quickly tried to hide the pipe in his back pocket, but it was too late. The officers stopped and spoke to the subject who admitted he was smoking Marijuana. A computer check revealed the subject to be on active probation with a search condition. Officer Dun searched the subject and located a medicine pill container filled with Marijuana. The officers confiscated the drug and cited the subject for the offense. He was then released. Report Number: 130292896
5:55pm 55 Phelan Ave Prohibited Weapon
Officer Edais, a City College Police Officer, was on foot patrol near 55 Phelan Avenue. While walking, he passed a parked vehicle and smelled a strong odor of Marijuana coming out of it. He then noticed two female occupants sitting in the back seat smoking the drug. He immediately requested another unit before contacting the subjects. Once Officer McGlaston arrived, they had the two females exit the car. Both subjects told the officers they were smoking Marijuana to try and get relaxed before giving a presentation in their next class. Officer Edais searched the vehicle, which belonged to one of the women, and found a Black backpack inside. He then searched the backpack and found a large bag containing Marijuana as well as Brass knuckles, a prohibited weapon. The owner of the vehicle admitted ownership of the backpack and everything inside and told the officer she had a valid medical Marijuana cannabis card. The Marijuana was seized as property for safe keeping and arrested the female suspect for possessing an illegal weapon. She was charged accordingly. Her female companion was released at the scene. 6:30pm 4600 Blk Mission Theft
Officers Khan and Kerlegan went to investigate a theft that just occurred at the Radio Shack located on the 4600 block of Mission Street. The store employee said a suspect came into the store and began looking around. Moments later, they heard the door alarm going off and saw the same suspect running out the store. The employee ran after the suspect and confronted him a block away, but the suspect was able to get away. They quickly called the police and provided a description. Several units searched the area and located the suspect several blocks away. The employee was taken to view the suspect, who identified him as the same subject who stole merchandise from the store. The officers searched the suspect and found the webcam and set of headphone he stole. A computer check revealed the suspect had several outstanding warrants for his arrest as well. The suspect was taken to Ingleside Station where he was booked for the theft and warrants. The items were returned to the store. Report Number: 130293941
Serious Incidents:
8:50am 400 Blk Silver Robbery
Officers Morrow and Wong were dispatched to a robbery that just occurred on the 400 block of Silver Avenue. They met with the victim who had been assaulted and was bleeding from his mouth. The victim said he was walking along when someone approached him from behind and put him in a choke hold, forcing him to the ground. The victim said he didn’t see the suspect, but heard him say, “Got him, got him, hurry up”. The victim blacked out and when he came to, he was on the floor bleeding from his mouth. Two witnesses, who happened to be driving by, saw the commotion and saw the suspect beating the victim, while three suspects waited in a get-away vehicle. After the suspect robbed the victim, he ran to the awaiting vehicle, which sped off on Silver Avenue. The victim said he was robbed of his Iphone, wallet, money, credit cards and driver’s license. Medics responded to the scene and transported the victim to a local hospital for treatment. A search of the area was conducted to no avail. Report Number: 130292329
CRIME ALERT: There has been an increase in auto boostings around Precita Park and the surrounding area. Don’t be a Victim.
Take extra precautions to avoid a criminal window-shopping inside your car. Never give them a reason to break into your car and steal your belongings.
Safety Tips:
*Try to park in a well- lit area and always lock your doors and secure your windows.
*Do not leave possessions on the seat or in plain view.
*Never hide belongings under the seat: This is the first place burglars check.
*Never cover expensive items with an article of clothing or blanket: This presents a hidden clue to thieves that items may be underneath.
*Do not leave any important documents inside your car that contain your personal information.
* Do not leave phone or MP3 chargers plugged in: this leads the burglar to believe there are expensive electronics inside your car.
Remember, if a criminal is unsuccessful and is not benefitting from his criminal activity, the thief will move on, thus making your neighborhood less of a target.
