CRIME ALERT: Increase in recent trend of robberies and thefts in and around the Balboa BART Station and City College area,
Be vigilant of suspicious vehicles pulling up and its occupants asking for directions and/or to use your phone and then fleeing the scene with your property.

Serious Incidents:

5:10pm       400 Blk Geneva               Robbery
Officers Morrow and Naval responded to a robbery call on the 400 block of Geneva Avenue. They met with the victim, who told them she was waiting for the bus, listening to music through her headphones and texting on her Iphone. As she was texting, a suspect approached her from behind and reached over her shoulder and grabbed her Iphone trying to take it. The victim yelled, “You have to be kidding me!”, and tried to pull away. The suspect then pulled her to the ground and ended up on top of her and in one quick motion, yanked the Iphone from her hands. The suspect got up and proceeded to run Westbound on Geneva Avenue. The victim herself, jumped up, and chased after the suspect. The victim managed to catch up to the suspect for a moment and kicked him once in the leg. The victim then stopped chasing after the suspect in fear of retaliation. The victim kept an eye on the suspect until he jumped into a waiting vehicle. Report Number 130061469.

5:15pm       Ocean/San Jose             Theft
A victim walked into Ingleside Station and informed Police Service Aide Flynn that she had been a victim of a theft. The victim advised she was standing on the Southwest corner of Ocean and San Jose Avenue when two female suspects in a Gray four door sedan stopped and asked for directions to the 24th Street BART Station. The victim advised the suspects that they were going in the wrong direction. The suspect driver then said that her cell phone had died and asked to borrow the victim’s Iphone to make a call. The victim then handed her Iphone to the front passenger to make the call. The driver then said, “I’m going to drive forward a little”. The suspect never stopped, fleeing the scene headed Southbound on San Jose Avenue. The victim was not injured and believes she had tracking software installed on her phone. Report Number 130061453.

6:18pm       50 Phelan                      Robbery
Officer McGlaston, of the San Francisco City College Police Department, went to the Rosenberg Library on a report of a stolen IPad. He met with the victim, who said she was seated at a desk with her IPad in front of her while studying on the third floor of the library.  She was in the process of putting her materials away in her backpack, when a suspect approached her from behind and grabbed the IPad from the desk. The victim struggled to hold on to her IPad as the suspect continued to pull it away. The suspect’s force was so great, that it pulled the victim to the ground. The suspect was able to rip the IPad from her grasp and fled running away through the library. The victim notified the library staff and called the police. Officer Green and Officer Wong responded to the call and canvassed the area for witnesses with negative results. Officer McGlaston then checked the surveillance cameras in the library and saw that it had recorded the whole incident as well as the suspects’ physical and clothing description. 7:10pm       Santos/Brookdale         Robbery
Officers trail, Peregoy, Uang and Hopkins responded to a robbery that occurred on the 1800 block of Sunnydale Avenue. They met with the victim who said he was walking on Santos Street headed towards Sunnydale Aveue, while playing on his IPhone. Two unknown suspects, one of whom who was wearing a hood over his face, approached him and said, “Gimme the Phone”. The other suspect then asked, “What kind of phone do you have?”. Without warning, the suspect with the hood produced a handgun and pointed it at the victim’s ribs. The victim said he feared for his life and handed over his phone because he did not want to get shot. The suspects took the IPhone and walked away disappearing in between the various buildings in the area. The victim quickly ran home and called the police. The victim advised the officers that his IPhone did not have any cellular service and used it only to play games. The officers searched the area for the suspects and witnesses to no avail. 7:30pm       Crescent/Murray          Robbery
Officers Pedersen and Hauscarriague were dispatched to the area of Crescent and Murray Street on a robbery call. When they arrived they met with the Spanish speaking victim. Officer Pedersen contacted a translator who translated the statements made by the victim. The victim stated he was walking along Crescent headed in the East bound direction when he was confronted by five suspects. One of the suspects in the group produced a black handgun, holding it at hip-level, and said “I’m going to shoot you”.  The victim said he couldn’t move as he was paralyzed with fear. A second suspect in the group proceeded to go through the victim’s pockets taking his IPhone, wallet, money, credit cards a paycheck and finally his backpack. The remaining three suspects acted as lookouts, looking up and down the street. After taking his property, the suspects ran North on Murray towards Holly Park. The suspect with the gun started to run away, but stopped and turned around and proceeded to pistol whip the victim with the butt of the gun. The victim then went home and called the police. The victim did state that he would be able to recognize the suspects if he saw then again. Report Number 130062213.

8:25pm       700 Blk Cortland         Robbery
Officers Kabanuck and Castillo were dispatched to Cortland and Ellsworth on a call of a robbery. Several Ingleside and Bayview units also responded. Officer Castillo spoke with four victims who were all robbed at gunpoint. The victims, all friends, said they were walking Eastbound on Cortland Avenue approaching Ellsworth when they were confronted by three suspects, one of whom was armed with a handgun and pointing it at all four victims. The suspect with the gun demanded the purses of all four victims and proceeded to pat them down for additional property. The victims, fearing for their safety, did not resist and gave up their purses containing an array of personal items including wallets, money, credit cards, cell phones, IPad and keys. The suspects then ran off with the stolen items headed down Cortland to Southbound Ellsworth. A witness, who happened to be driving by, saw the suspects running away and tried to follow them but lost then in the area. The victims were not injured. Report Number 130062097.

11:30pm     Ocean/Phelan                Robbery
Officers Carrasco and Dominguez responded to a call of a robbery that had occurred thirty minutes prior on the walkway near Ocean and Phelan Avenue. The victim said she was walking home and took the overhead footpath which starts at Ocean and Phelan. As she began walking, she felt someone walking behind her. The victim said she did not want to turn around or slow down so she continued on. Several moments later, she said a suspect, who was wearing a dark hoodie with a scarf covering his face, tackled her and they both fell to the ground. The suspect then pinned her down and removed her cell phone from her jacket pocket. Once he did so, the suspect got back up and ran back towards Ocean and Phelan. The victim then walked home and called the police. The victim advised the officers that her cell phone was not equipped with any tracking software. Report Number 130062514.
