DUI Saturation Patrols This
Thursday
San
Francisco Police Department’s Traffic Unit will be conducting DUI saturation
patrols on Thursday, January 19, 2017 between the hours of 7:00 P.M. and 3:00
A.M. Research shows that crashes involving an impaired driver can be reduced by
up to 20 percent when well-publicized DUI checkpoints and proactive DUI patrols
are conducted routinely.
Officers
will be looking for signs of alcohol and/or drug impairment by checking drivers
for proper licensing, delaying motorists only momentarily. When possible, specially
trained officers will be available to evaluate those suspected of drug-impaired
driving. Recent statistics reveal that 30 percent of drivers in fatal crashes
had one or more drugs in their systems. A study of active drivers showed more
tested positive for drugs that may impair driving (14 percent) than did for
alcohol (7.3 percent). Of the drugs, marijuana was most prevalent, at 7.4
percent, slightly more than alcohol.
Drivers
caught driving impaired can expect the impact of a DUI arrest to include jail
time, fines, fees, DUI classes, other expenses that can exceed $10,000, not to
mention the embarrassment when friends and family find out.
Funding for
this checkpoint is provided to the San Francisco Police Department by a grant
from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway
Traffic Safety Administration, reminding everyone to ‘Report Drunk Drivers –
Call 9-1-1’.

Dolores Hot Prowl Burglary
A woman and her roommate retired for the night at
approximately 1:30 in the morning. While falling asleep, the woman saw lights
in the apartment hallway but wasn’t alarmed because she thought it was her
roommate. Shortly thereafter, a suspect entered her bedroom and starting pawing
through her jewelry and other valuables on her dresser. The woman called out
her roommate’s name, at which point the suspect fled. Ingleside Officers
Cvetovac and Debellis arrived and searched the apartment for clues. The
officers concluded the suspect entered and exited the home through the front
door. The loss was jewelry and a cell phone. Report number: 170026116

Prowl Burglary
A woman returned home and walked into a dangerous situation.
The victim told Ingleside Officers Dungca and Ahern that she noticed her front
gate damaged and open. She entered the home and saw a masked man, wearing
gloves. When the suspect saw the woman he fled. The woman walked through her
home and saw the back bedroom door kicked in. She called her son and he called
police while on his way home. Security video of the event showed the suspect
pacing in front of the home and then using a pry tool to break open the
security gate. He then used a tool to smash one of the security cameras in the
home. The officers recovered the security video of the suspect and turned it
over to the Ingleside Station Investigative Team. (Captains Note: Never walk into a home if
you suspect that there’s been a break in. Stay out and call police.) Report
