Shopper 2017 - Holiday Season Safety Tips
During this
holiday season, the San Francisco Police Department will be working to enhance
safety for residents, visitors and shoppers. There will be increased foot
patrols in shopping areas throughout the city, including the horse/mounted
unit, plainclothes officers and traffic enforcement.
“The men
and women of the San Francisco Police Department wish everyone a safe and
joyful holiday season,” said Chief William Scott. “Whether you’re shopping for
gifts or going about your daily routine, it’s important to remain careful and
aware to prevent theft. Follow our tips to help keep you and your belongings
safe.”
• Stay
alert when using electronic devices. Limit your distractions.
• Always be
alert to your surroundings and have your keys in your hand as you approach your
vehicle.
• Park
Smart: Help avoid vehicle break-ins, leave nothing visible in your car.
Consider moving your vehicle to a different location each time you load
packages in the trunk. Try to use parking lots where there are parking
attendants.
• Keep your
wallet in a hard-to-reach place and carry only the cash and credit cards that
you will need to complete your shopping.
• If
someone demands your purse, wallet, or packages, surrender them, make note of
the suspect’s description and direction they flee and call 911. Property can be
replaced.
• If you
see something, say something. If you witness criminal activity or see something
or someone suspicious, flag down a police officer, call 911 or contact
security.
• Use 311
to report auto burglaries.
• Shop with
a companion, especially after dark, whenever possible.
•
Shield your PIN when using ATMs or other electronic devices in public.
Please report criminal activity
to police immediately. Additional personal safety tips are available at

8:48am 500 Blk. Madrid Arson
A man
on felony probation for arson snuck into his father’s garage and ignited
another fire. Fortunately, the blaze was minor and firefighters from SFFD
Engine #43 were able to quickly extinguish the fire with little damage to the
garage. Family members of the suspect said he had snuck into the garage to set
the blaze. The suspect, who had been released from jail last month, told
Ingleside Officers Salazar, Chang, and Rodriquez that he was “burning papers in
the garage to get rid of memories”. The
suspect was arrested for Arson and other crimes and transported to Ingleside
Station for booking. The San Francisco Fire Department and the San Francisco
Police Department Arson Investigators were notified of the incident. Report

Serious
Incidents:
11:30pm 900 Blk. Geneva Stolen Auto
It’s
common for owners of high end cars to refrain from placing the required front
license plate on their car. Many will say it ruins the look of their pride and
joy. But, failing to put the plate on a car also captures the attention of
police officers. Most times it results in a citation for the owner. In this
case, it led to the arrest of a car thief. Ingleside Officers Parker and Stoffel
who were on routine patrol driving eastbound on Geneva Avenue when they spotted
an 11 year old BMW without a front plate. The officers ran the rear plate which
revealed the car was stolen from an address on Harvard Street. The officers
pulled the 2006 BMW over and ordered the driver and passenger out of the car,
which they calmly complied too. The 19 year old male driver said the car
belonged to a friend named “Isaiah”, but didn’t know where his friend lived or
had his phone number. He was arrested for auto theft as well as driving without
a license. His female passenger released at the scene. The owner of the stolen
car responded to the arrest scene and recovered his vehicle. Report number: 170981043
