San Francisco Police Statement on Las Vegas Tragedy and
                                 Fleet Week Preparations

The men and women of the San Francisco Police Department offer their condolences to those impacted by Sunday’s tragedy in Las Vegas.

As the City begins a week of special events, we want to reassure the public that we are working with our local and federal partners to provide a safe environment for everyone. The public can expect to see a visible police presence including officers on foot, motorcycle, on horseback and in patrol cars at the various events around the City.

The Department has staffed up for this week’s events with no discretionary time off allowed for SFPD officers. District stations will be staffed and we will have additional resources on hand for any spontaneous events. There are no known threats to the City or any special events. As always, we remind everyone, “If you see something, say something.” Call 911 to report suspicious activity or crimes in progress.

Arrests:

9:11am       San Jose & Santa Ynez           D.U.I
Ingleside Officers Endo and Chan were on routine patrol when they spotted a vehicle that had collided with a guard rail at a Muni light rail stop. The blue Toyota had both airbags deployed and front end damage. The driver, who had blood on his face and hands, was struggling with the ignition keys and trying to start the car, which wouldn’t start. Then he tried to exit the car without taking off his seatbelt. He finally got out of the car and tried to walk away from the accident. Ingleside Officer Chan stopped the suspect who blurted out that the car was stolen. That of course wasn’t true. The driver didn’t have a license or insurance. A records check revealed his license was suspended in December of last year, then again in January of this year for DUI, and finally in July again for another violation of the vehicle code. The driver was taken to San Francisco General for treatment. A search warrant was obtained and the Department phlebotomist was summoned to draw blood for testing. The suspect was then booked at the hospital for DUI. Report number: 170785293

Serious Incidents:

1:50am       3800 Blk. Mission                    Robbery
Two restaurant workers were cleaning up and preparing for closing when an unknown man entered through an unlocked back door. The workers told Ingleside Officers Lozano and McCall the suspect pulled a gun and demanded money. The victims turned over several hundred dollars from the cash register and handed it to the suspect. The suspect then fled out the back door and ran away in an unknown direction. Report number: 170784825

3:21am       3700 Blk. Mission                  Attempted Robbery
Ingleside Officer Zhao was on routine patrol when he noticed an older silver Ford Focus, with two occupants, pull away from the curb on Mission Street and drive away at high speed. Shortly thereafter, a man waived at officer Zhao, who stopped the patrol car. The man said the Ford’s passenger waived a gun at him and demanded money. But, the robbery failed because Officer Zhao had just rolled into view. Zhao, along with other Ingleside units, then started searching for the car which was soon found parked and abandoned on Park Street, just off of Mission. There were no signs of the suspects. The suspect car was eventually towed from the scene. The case is under investigation. Report number: 170784900
