A
rear end accident resulted in one of the drivers being arrested for DUI.
Ingleside Officers Cassinelli and Foxworth were dispatched to a report of an
accident at Mission and Trumbull. When the officers arrived they found that
other officers had detained the two drivers. The driver of one of the vehicles
told the officers that he was hit from behind by the other driver while slowing
for a stop light. The first driver got out of his car and walked back to view
the damage and to get the license, insurance, and registration of the second
driver. But the second driver wouldn’t leave his car and, instead, tried to drive
away. The first driver was able to reach into the car and remove the ignition
key preventing the second driver’s escape. The officers questioned the second
driver who had a swollen lip, slurred speech, and droopy eyes. Suspecting
alcohol inebriation, the officers asked the driver to perform a comprehensive
roadside sobriety test. He failed. He was arrested and taken to San Francisco
General for treatment of his injury. While at the hospital, a phlebotomist
arrived to conduct a blood draw to determine the level of intoxication. After
the draw, and after being released by physicians, the suspect was taken to San
Francisco Jail and booked for driving under the influence of alcohol. Report
