Traffic Safety Enforcement Operations Plan for San Francisco
                                                   with OTS Grant

The San Francisco Police Department will conduct Traffic Safety Enforcement Operations on June 1st, 9th, 12th, 20th and 27th with a focus on bicycle and pedestrian safety. Over the past three years, the department has identified areas where significant numbers of pedestrian and bicycle-related collisions have occurred and responded by deploying additional officers to those areas in an effort to prevent deaths and injuries. Special attention will be given to Focus on the Five violations: excessive and unsafe speed, unsafe turns, failure to stop for signs and signals, failure to yield to pedestrians in cross walks, as well as any other dangerous violation.

San Francisco is committed to eliminating traffic deaths on our streets by 2024 as part of Vision Zero SF. Vision Zero SF is our city’s commitment to prioritize safe streets for everyone.

Bicycle and pedestrian fatalities are rising in California as more people use these non-motorized means of transportation. In 2013, California witnessed 701 pedestrians and 141 bicyclists killed, accounting for more than 28 percent of all traffic fatalities.

All riders are reminded to always wear a helmet – those under 18 years of age must wear helmets by law. Pedestrians should cross the street only in marked or unmarked crosswalks at corners. All motorists are reminded to be mindful of others who share the road.

Funding for this program is provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

11:00am                    Unit Blk. John F. Shelley                    Stolen Vehicle
A man walking his dogs in the park noticed some strange behavior from the driver of a late model Volkswagen. She was driving around in circles at an increasing rate of speed before suddenly going off the roadway and crashing into a tree. Both the driver and her passenger fled the car and didn’t respond to entreaties about their health. The witness called police with a description of the two occupants and soon thereafter Ingleside officers Mora, Jiries, and Williams found them walking near Visitacion and Mansell Streets. Ingleside officer Suguitan brought the witness to the arrest scene and he positively identified the juveniles as the occupants of the car. Both were taken to Juvenile Justice Center for booking. The owner of the car, which was stolen from a San Francisco address, was summoned to retrieve her damaged vehicle. Report number: 170440851
