Traffic
Safety Enforcement Operations Plan for San Francisco
with OTS Grant
The San
Francisco Police Department will conduct Traffic Safety Enforcement Operations
on June 1st, 9th, 12th, 20th and 27th with a focus on bicycle and pedestrian safety. Over the past three
years, the department has identified areas where significant numbers of
pedestrian and bicycle-related collisions have occurred and responded by
deploying additional officers to those areas in an effort to prevent deaths and
injuries. Special attention will be given to Focus on the Five violations:
excessive and unsafe speed, unsafe turns, failure to stop for signs and
signals, failure to yield to pedestrians in cross walks, as well as any other
dangerous violation.
San
Francisco is committed to eliminating traffic deaths on our streets by 2024 as
part of Vision Zero SF. Vision Zero SF is our city’s commitment to prioritize
safe streets for everyone.
Bicycle and
pedestrian fatalities are rising in California as more people use these
non-motorized means of transportation. In 2013, California witnessed 701
pedestrians and 141 bicyclists killed, accounting for more than 28 percent of
all traffic fatalities.
All riders
are reminded to always wear a helmet – those under 18 years of age must wear
helmets by law. Pedestrians should cross the street only in marked or unmarked
crosswalks at corners. All motorists are reminded to be mindful of others who
share the road.
Funding for
this program is provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic
Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
Arrests:
7:01am 100 Blk. Blythedale Robbery w/Force
A
task force of Ingleside officers, armed with a search warrant, went to an
address looking for two men wanted for a brutal robbery that occurred last
month. The robbers had attacked a man at a bus stop, punching him in the face,
before taking his headphones. At the home, one of the suspects was arrested for
the robbery and taken to the Juvenile Justice Center. Later, in the afternoon,
the other suspect, hearing that police were looking for him, walked into
Ingleside Station and surrendered to officers. He was also transferred to the
Juvenile Justice Center and charged with the robbery. Report number: 170351474
6:32pm Persia & Vienna D.U.I
Ingleside
Officers Calupad and Siracusa were in the right spot at the right time to catch
a drunk driver. The officers were driving eastbound on Persia, approaching
Vienna, when they noticed the driver of a Nissan Sentra make a left turn onto
Persia and start driving in the wrong lane. The officers followed the vehicle
until it pulled over and stopped in the 500 block of Athens. The officers tried
to get the driver’s attention to warn him about the illegal turn. But, the
driver, unaware of the officers, got out of his still moving car and watched as
it collided with a parked vehicle. Seeing the collision and hearing officer
Siracusa’s warning, the driver then re-entered his car and turned off the
ignition and placed the gear selector in Park. The driver admitted he was
unlicensed and agreed to a roadside sobriety test. He failed that test. He also
agreed to take a breath alcohol test. The first test revealed a blood alcohol
level of twice the legal limit and the second test revealed close to that
result. He was taken to the County Jail and booked for DUI. Report number:
