Traffic
Safety Enforcement Operations Plan for San Francisco with OTS Grant
The San
Francisco Police Department will conduct Traffic Safety Enforcement Operations
on May 4th, 8th, 16th and 26th with a focus on bicycle and pedestrian safety. Over the past three
years, the department has identified areas where significant numbers of
pedestrian and bicycle-related collisions have occurred and responded by
deploying additional officers to those areas in an effort to prevent deaths and
injuries. Special attention will be given to Focus on the Five violations:
excessive and unsafe speed, unsafe turns, failure to stop for signs and
signals, failure to yield to pedestrians in cross walks, as well as any other
dangerous violation.
San
Francisco is committed to eliminating traffic deaths on our streets by 2024 as
part of Vision Zero SF. Vision Zero SF is our city’s commitment to prioritize
safe streets for everyone.
Bicycle and
pedestrian fatalities are rising in California as more people use these
non-motorized means of transportation. In 2013, California witnessed 701
pedestrians and 141 bicyclists killed, accounting for more than 28 percent of
all traffic fatalities.
All riders
are reminded to always wear a helmet – those under 18 years of age must wear
helmets by law. Pedestrians should cross the street only in marked or unmarked
crosswalks at corners. All motorists are reminded to be mindful of others who
share the road.
Funding for
this program is provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic
Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

12:20pm 1100 Blk. Athens Hot Prowl Burglary
A woman, home with her husband, heard her front doorbell ring.
She told Ingleside Officers Hornstein and Burke, she went to the front door and
looked through the small window and saw two men she didn’t know. The men,
apparently, not noticing the homeowner turned around and left the front door.
About 5 minutes later she and her husband heard a loud noise from the front
door. The husband, picked up a stick, and ran to the front door, opened it, and
chased the two men down the stairway and down the block to a waiting sedan. The
men got into the car which sped off north on Athens and then east on Rolph St. (Captain’s Note: It’s never safe to chase suspects away
if your home. If you believe someone is trying to break into your home call
911, stay behind your locked door, and tell the potential burglars you’re
calling the police) Report number: 170341613
