DUI Saturation Patrols
This Friday
San
Francisco Police Department’s Traffic Unit will be conducting DUI saturation
patrols on Friday, December 30, 2016 between the hours of 7:00 P.M. and 3:00
A.M. Research shows that crashes involving an impaired driver can be reduced by
up to 20 percent when well-publicized DUI checkpoints and proactive DUI patrols
are conducted routinely.
Officers
will be looking for signs of alcohol and/or drug impairment by checking drivers
for proper licensing, delaying motorists only momentarily. When possible,
specially trained officers will be available to evaluate those suspected of
drug-impaired driving. Recent statistics reveal that 30 percent of drivers in
fatal crashes had one or more drugs in their systems. A study of active drivers
showed more tested positive for drugs that may impair driving (14 percent) than
did for alcohol (7.3 percent). Of the drugs, marijuana was most prevalent, at
7.4 percent, slightly more than alcohol.
Drivers
caught driving impaired can expect the impact of a DUI arrest to include jail
time, fines, fees, DUI classes, other expenses that can exceed $10,000, not to
mention the embarrassment when friends and family find out. Funding for this
checkpoint is provided to the San Francisco Police Department by a grant from the
California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic
Safety Administration, reminding everyone to ‘Report Drunk Drivers – Call
‘9-1-1’.

Resisting Arrest
Ingleside Officers Archilla, Fillamor, and Malatesta were on
routine patrol when they spotted a man on parole with a search condition. He
was inside a business where numerous arrests for various serious crimes had
occurred before. When asked for identification, the suspect gave the officers a
false name. When asked to step outside he refused and became combative. He was
finally subdued and placed in handcuffs. Inside his pockets was a pipe used to
smoke methamphetamine. He was transported to Ingleside station where he was cited
for resisting arrest, possession of narcotics paraphernalia, and giving a false
name to a police officer. Report number: 161038532
7:26pm Mansell
& Visitacion Warrant
Arrest
Ingleside Officers Dungca, Quinlan, and Coss were patrolling
near Crocker-Amazon Park when they spotted a red Nissan Altima driving
northbound on Moscow Street. Officer Coss remembered there was a bulletin from
Burlingame PD about red Nissan Altima possibly involved in a homicide. A
computer check revealed that this was that Nissan Altima. The officers radioed
for backup and, with the help of several other units, stopped the Altima at
Mansell and Visitacion. The vehicle’s three occupants were placed in custody.
Burlingame police were notified and one of their investigators traveled to
Ingleside Station to interview the occupants of the vehicle. Inside the Nissan
the officers found cash, a significant amount of marijuana along with baggies
and a scale to package the substance for sale. They also found cocaine and a Confederate
flag bandana inside the driver’s door that contained more items used in the
sale of narcotics. Report number: 161039449
