SFPD and Walgreens Kick Off 2016 Holiday Toy Drive

In collaboration with Walgreens drugstores, the San Francisco Police Department today launched its 2016 Holiday Toy Drive, benefitting the City’s children in need.

From November 18 to December 19, SFPD will be accepting donations of new, unwrapped toys at more than 60 San Francisco Walgreens locations. The goal is to exceed last year’s toy drive, in which approximately 2,500 items were donated at 30 Walgreens stores for distribution to San Francisco children.

“Everyone can make a difference in a child’s life,” said Interim Police Chief Toney Chaplin. “San Franciscans are generous, thoughtful people and we believe they will step up to brighten the holidays for children and provide happy memories for years to come. We thank Walgreens for doing their part again this year to help San Francisco youth.”

Donors can purchase or drop off a new, unwrapped toy at any San Francisco Walgreens that features a brightly colored and marked toy drive collection bin. Those unable to drop off a toy may also contribute to a Go Fund Me account (https://www.gofundme.com/sfpdtoydrive2016) established by the San Francisco Police Foundation to purchase toys for underprivileged children this holiday season.

Arrests:

2:55am       Alemany & Justin                            D.U.I
Ingleside Officers Landis and Neuerburg were dispatched to a report of a single car collision where a vehicle left the roadway and plowed through two fences and into the backyard of a home. When the officers arrived on scene they found the driver of a late model Mercedes SUV sitting behind the wheel in a somewhat dazed state of awareness. The Mercedes had damage to the front wheels, grill, hood, windshield, fenders, and all four tires. The 21 year old woman driver, who resides in Southern California, told the officers that she had approximately five drinks before the collision and was unaware that she was driving the wrong way on Alemany Blvd. explaining that she “was following my GPS”. She was given a field sobriety test which she failed. The suspect agreed to provide a blood sample, which was taken at Mission Station by a Department phlebotomist. After the sample she was booked at the county jail for D.U.I and her severely damaged Mercedes was towed to impound. Report number: 160942180

7:40am       Mission & Trumbull                        Narcotics
A man walking away from an address where many officers have made numerous arrests for narcotics and illegal gambling caught the attention of Ingleside Officer Moreno and Sgt. Kumli. The officers followed the suspect and stopped him in the parking lot of a nearby market. He consented to a search of his clothing where the officers found packets of methamphetamine and a pipe used to smoke the narcotic. He was cited for possession of narcotics and possession of narcotic paraphernalia and released. Report number: 160942419

Another suspect kicked him in the left thigh before taking his wallet containing a significant amount of cash. The suspects then fled in an unknown direction.
