SFPD and Walgreens Kick Off 2016 Holiday Toy Drive

In collaboration with Walgreens drugstores, the San Francisco Police Department today launched its 2016 Holiday Toy Drive, benefitting the City’s children in need.

From November 18 to December 19, SFPD will be accepting donations of new, unwrapped toys at more than 60 San Francisco Walgreens locations. The goal is to exceed last year’s toy drive, in which approximately 2,500 items were donated at 30 Walgreens stores for distribution to San Francisco children.

“Everyone can make a difference in a child’s life,” said Interim Police Chief Toney Chaplin. “San Franciscans are generous, thoughtful people and we believe they will step up to brighten the holidays for children and provide happy memories for years to come. We thank Walgreens for doing their part again this year to help San Francisco youth.”

Donors can purchase or drop off a new, unwrapped toy at any San Francisco Walgreens that features a brightly colored and marked toy drive collection bin. Those unable to drop off a toy may also contribute to a Go Fund Me account (https://www.gofundme.com/sfpdtoydrive2016) established by the San Francisco Police Foundation to purchase toys for underprivileged children this holiday season.

Serious Incidents:

1:48pm       1200 Blk. Geneva                            Robbery
Under the category of “what can go wrong with that”, a young man decided to sell his very desirable “Air Jordan” shoes on line for $190 and met the purchasers at Crocker-Amazon Park.  The “purchasers” showed up with $200 cash and wanted $10 change. The seller went home to get the change and the shoes, then returned to the park whereby the purchasers punched him the face and grabbed the shoes. The seller ran after the robbers, grabbed his shoes back, and then ran home. The robbers escaped by running to a parked car which sped away in an unknown direction. Ingleside Officers Archilla and Laokwansathitaya searched the area for the suspects without success. Report number: 160933662
