SAN FRANCISCO POLICE DEPARTMENT TAKING BACK UNWANTED PRESCRIPTION DRUGS APRIL 30, 2016 AT ALL DISTRICT STATIONS
San Francisco, CA – On April 30, 2016 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. the San Francisco Police Department and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) will give the public another opportunity to prevent pill abuse and theft by ridding their homes of potentially dangerous expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs.  Bring your medications for disposal to any of the San Francisco Police Departments District Stations throughout San Francisco.  The service is free and anonymous, no questions asked.
This initiative addresses a vital public safety and public health issue.  Medicines that languish in home cabinets are highly susceptible to diversion, misuse, and abuse. Rates of prescription drug abuse in the U.S. are alarmingly high, as are the number of accidental poisonings and overdoses due to these drugs.  Studies show that a majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, including from the home medicine cabinet. In addition, Americans are now advised that their usual methods for disposing of unused medicines—flushing them down the toilet or throwing them in the trash—both pose potential safety and health hazards.
Please start preparing now and look through your medicine cabinets.
WE WILL NOT BE ACCEPTING INTRA-VENOUS SOLUTIONS, NEEDLES, INHALERS OR PATCH STYLE MEDICATIONS.
ILLICIT SUBSTANCES SUCH AS METHAMPHETAMINE, MARIJUANA, ETC ARE NOT PART OF THIS INITIATIVE.

A man wanted for several felony warrants was captured thanks to the keen eyes of Sgt Alvarez and Ingleside Officers Seavey, Lustenberger and Barajas. The trio of officers along with Sgt Alvarez were patrolling a high crime area of the district when they spotted the suspect standing next to a vehicle. The officers exited their patrol car, identified themselves, and told the suspect to stand still so he could be placed in custody. The suspect ignored the officers’ request and started running through the neighborhood with Seavey, Lustenberger, and Alvarez in pursuit, while Barajas radioed for assistance. Fortunately, the chase was short and the suspect was arrested and placed in custody. He was booked for the warrants and for fleeing from police. Report number: 160333965

6:15pm       1600 Blk Sunnydale                 Warrant Arrest
Sometimes miscreants think officers are, shall we say, not smart enough to spot something, to the officers, is obviously suspicious. Ingleside Sgt Alvarez and Officers Lustenberger, Seavey, and Barajas had finished processing the above arrest and were back on patrol when they spotted an older Mercedes with registration that expired over a year ago. Yet, someone thought that putting a 2017 green expiration sticker on the rear plate, would fool the police. It didn’t and the three officers and one sergeant pulled the vehicle over. The driver was unlicensed. He also had some methamphetamine in one of his pockets. The Mercedes was registered to an address that Vallejo PD said didn’t exist. The car was towed to impound and the driver was transported to Ingleside Station for booking. Report number: 160334474

The suspect reached around the victim and grabbed the victim’s throat with his left hand while placing the barrel of a gun against the victim’s right temple. Frozen in fear, the victim surrendered two gold chains and a gold bracelet to the suspect who quickly fled north on Schwerin. Report number: 160335137

Arrests:

8:05am       Visitacion/Hahn                        Stolen Vehicle
A minor traffic infraction resulted in a young woman being arrested for several crimes. It started when Ingleside Officers Labson and Barranti noticed the driver of a 2006 Pontiac ignore the stop sign at the intersection of Sunnydale and Santos Streets. The officers followed the Pontiac for a short distance while checking the vehicle’s registration status. DMV records revealed the license plate on the car was reported stolen off a vehicle in Union City. Labson and Barranti turned on their emergency lights and stopped the vehicle at Visitacion and Hahn Streets. The officers questioned the driver who, it turned out, was operating the Pontiac without a driver’s license. The license plates assigned to the Pontiac were on the floor of the vehicle and a check revealed the Pontiac had been stolen earlier in Oakland. The car was towed to impound and the owner notified of its recovery. The driver was taken to Ingleside Station and booked for possession of stolen property, driving with a suspended or revoked license, false registration, and the traffic violation. Report number: 160323308

4:27pm       3300 Blk Mission                      Narcotics
Store employees called 911 when they found an unconscious man in a van in the store’s parking lot. 911 dispatched an ambulance along with Ingleside Officers Campos, Fabela, and Tien. The officers arrived a short time before medical personnel and woke up the sleeping occupant who was drenched in sweat, groggy, and unsteady. A computer check revealed the man was wanted on a $12,000 warrant for several narcotics charges in San Francisco. A search of his clothing revealed a quantity of methamphetamine in one pocket and $2300 in cash in another pocket. The officers also found a large quantity of prescription narcotics, a pipe used to smoke narcotics, and a duffle bag with, what the officers believe, stolen electronics. This was, yet, another incident where a police officer’s life may have been saved by the quick action of his or her partner. Witnesses called police to report a man with a knife chasing another man down the sidewalk on the 4700 block of Mission swinging the knives at him. Ingleside Officers McMilton and Sandoval were the first to respond and when they arrived on scene they spotted the suspect on the sidewalk. Officer Mc Milton was sitting in the passenger seat with Officer Sandoval as the driver. The suspect ran out onto the street, holding the two knives in a menacing manner, toward the patrol car’s passenger side where Officer McMilton was sitting with her window down. McMilton could not exit the patrol car without putting herself in grave danger. With a split second decision, Officer Sandoval jumped out of the driver’s side of the patrol car, ran around to the passenger side, and commanded the suspect, standing over McMilton, to drop the knives. Fortunately, the suspect complied and was immediately taken into custody. He was taken to Ingleside Station where he was booked for assault, attempted homicide, and aggravated assault on a police officer. Report number: 160326023

An inebriated man walking down the street started swinging wildly at people walking along the sidewalk. One of his punches connected, with the victim suffering a blow to his face. Witnesses called police and Ingleside Officers Joseph and Marshall arrived and observed the suspect pushing and yelling at another man. Officer Marshall approached the suspect and told him to stop pushing another pedestrian. One of the other vehicles was an older Toyota Solara double parked in the street. Inside the Solara the officers spotted a significant amount of marijuana in a center cup holder.
