Francisco Police Officers perform a wide variety of duties to promote public
safety and security, prevent crime and enforce the law. Police Officers perform
a number of essential functions. For example, they patrol districts to prevent
and detect crime; respond to calls for assistance; conduct criminal
investigations; interact with the community to build cooperation and support;
pursue and arrest suspects; enforce traffic and parking laws; write reports and
maintain records; work with superiors, peers, and others as a team; prepare for
and participate in planned events; prepare for court and give testimony; and
fulfill other administrative duties when required.
Minimum
Qualifications:
Be at least 20 years of age. You will need to be 21 years old
before starting the academy.
There is no maximum age limit.
Have not been convicted of a felony
crime.
Have not been convicted of an
offense involving domestic violence.
Have not been convicted of any misdemeanor, which carries a
penalty of prohibiting ownership,
possession or control of a firearm.
Be a U.S. citizen or a permanent
resident alien and become a U.S. citizen within two years.
Have a U.S. High School Diploma, have passed a G.E.D. or the
California High School Proficiency, or have an AA or higher degree from an
accredited college or university.
Have a valid driver license to
operate an automobile.
If you wish to claim Veteran’s Preference, please bring a
copy of your DD214 to the written test.
The Police
Officer Testing Components:
A multiple choice written examination that measures basic
reading and writing abilities.
A physical ability examination that
measures strength, endurance, equilibrium and flexibility.
An oral interview that tests oral communication, problem
solving and interpersonal skills.
Candidates who pass the three part Police Officer examination
process move on to the background investigation process. The background
investigation process consists of:
- Personal
History Questionnaire

Employment-character-background investigation

Psychological evaluation
- Polygraph
examination
- Medical
examination that includes a vision test, a hearing test and height/weight
measurements.

Holiday Turkey Giveaway: Ingleside Station Captain Joseph McFadden,
with cooperation from the San Francisco Police Officers Association,
distributed hundreds of turkeys to residents of the Alemany and Sunnydale
Housing Community. An additional 12 turkeys were given, along with all the
trimmings, to needy families in the Ingleside District.
Arrests:
12:35pm Amazon/Paris Burglary
An alert citizen helped foil a vehicle burglary. While
driving on Amazon Avenue with her husband, the woman noticed a man trying to
open the back doors of a Postal delivery truck. An accomplice was stationed on
a nearby corner as a lookout. The woman called police and Ingleside Officer
Archilla responded and found the two suspects inside a vehicle parked nearby.
Officer Archilla, with the help of other Ingleside officers, arrested the pair
for vehicle burglary. One of the suspects was also wanted on several traffic
warrants. Report number: 151010794

Blk Sunnydale Evading a Police Officer
A stolen car wanted for evading police was spotted
driving eastbound on Geneva Avenue by Ingleside Officers Seavey and Padilla.
The two officers, with the assistance of other Ingleside units, attempted to
stop the vehicle, but the driver ignored the officers’ emergency lights and
siren and drove away at a high rate of speed. The suspects drove east on Geneva
and then through several intersections in Visitacion Valley without stopping.
They collided with a motorist exiting his garage and continued their escape
after the collision before colliding with a pole near a housing development on
Sunnydale Ave. All four occupants of the vehicle exited the stolen car with the
officers in pursuit. All four were quickly apprehended. The driver was arrested
for auto theft, reckless driving, evading police, and other crimes. The three
juvenile passengers were released into the custody of their parents. Report
