Heights/Anderson
Resisting Arrest
A minivan parked in a handicapped space at Bernal Heights
Park caught the attention of Ingleside Officers Campos and Cahill. The officers
also noticed that the minivan lacked a front license plate, which is required
by state law. Officers Campos and Cahill
exited their patrol car and Campos went to the passenger side door while Cahill
went to the driver’s door. Both officers asked the occupants to lower the
window so they could talk to them. When the windows rolled down the smell of
marijuana went up. Both officers asked
the occupants to step out of the van so they could talk to them. The driver
complied but the passenger refused. Officer Campos asked again and the
passenger still refused. Campos opened the door and the passenger got out but,
instead of standing still, lunged at the back sliding door. Officer Campos
tried to restrain his movements not knowing what’s behind the back door of the
van. A struggle ensued with the passenger thrashing around and pulling Campos
to the ground. Fortunately, Ingleside Officers Leong and Ashida arrived on
scene and helped subdue the passenger. He was taken to Ingleside Station where
he was booked for resisting arrest and possession of marijuana. Report number:
