20-hour training, taught by First Responders, includes personal preparedness,
light search and rescue, disaster medicine, shutting off your utilities, and
how to participate as a member of a neighborhood response team. NERT also offers continuing training for
graduates and activities that support building robust neighborhood teams. For more information, visit the NERT website

Are you someone who is interested in disaster preparedness and wants to help out your community while working hand in hand with law enforcement? Then the ALERT program is for you!
What is the
A.L.E.R.T. Program?
The San Francisco Police Department has developed a
volunteer citizen disaster preparedness program. The Auxiliary Law Enforcement
Response Team (ALERT) is modeled after and works in partnership with the San
Francisco Fire Department's Neighborhood Emergency Response Team (NERT). The
ALERT program will train members of the public to assist law enforcement in
essential tasks after a major disaster. Such tasks may include: traffic
control, foot patrol of business and residential areas, and reporting criminal
activity. Volunteers must be at least 16 years of age and live, work, or attend
high school in San Francisco.
Three steps to becoming an
A.L.E.R.T. volunteer:
1. Complete NERT training and receive
certification. To register for NERT training courses please visit www.sfgov.org/sfnert
2. Once NERT certified, forward a copy
of your NERT ID card to the ALERT program. sfpdalert@sfov.org
3. After clearing a basic background
check the individual is eligible to register for ALERT training.
8:17am 3300 Blk Mission Counterfeit Currency
A sharp eyed and delicate fingered store clerk helped police arrest a woman attempting to pass counterfeit currency. The clerk told Ingleside Officers Dilag and Tran that the woman approached her customer service counter and asked to change a $100 dollar bill into 20 $5 bills. The clerk said the bill was “weird looking”, had no watermarks, was dark in color, and “felt soft” to the touch. The store managers told the clerk to hold onto the counterfeit bill and call police. Hearing the news, the suspect left the store and was quickly arrested a short time later by Ingleside Officers Curry and O’Leary-Klier. A search of the suspect’s purse revealed stolen mail, a stolen debit card, checks made out to different people, and a switch blade knife. She was booked for possession of counterfeit currency and illegal possession of a weapon. Report number: 140845667
3:44pm 1500 Blk Sunnydale Drugs
Ingleside Officers Padilla, Seavey and Sgt. Alvarez were on routine patrol when they spotted a vehicle parked, without a “handicapped” placard parked in a lot reserved for handicapped vehicle owners. The officers approached the car and recognized the driver as a man on parole for narcotics crimes. The officers also noticed a scaled used to weigh narcotics on the center console and a quantity of “crack” cocaine next to the scale. The suspect refused to leave the car when asked by the officers. He was forcibly removed and taken to Ingleside Station where a search of his clothing revealed more narcotics and approximately $1000 in cash. He was taken to Ingleside Station and booked for possession of narcotics for sale, resisting arrest, and parole violations. Report number: 140847083
