The San Francisco Neighborhood Emergency Response Team (NERT) is free training from the San Francisco Fire Department in how to help yourself and your neighbors prepare for and respond to a disaster by working together. The 20-hour training, taught by First Responders, includes personal preparedness, light search and rescue, disaster medicine, shutting off your utilities, and how to participate as a member of a neighborhood response team. NERT also offers continuing training for graduates and activities that support building robust neighborhood teams. What is the
A.L.E.R.T. Program?
The San Francisco Police Department has developed a
volunteer citizen disaster preparedness program. The Auxiliary Law Enforcement
Response Team (ALERT) is modeled after and works in partnership with the San
Francisco Fire Department's Neighborhood Emergency Response Team (NERT). The
ALERT program will train members of the public to assist law enforcement in
essential tasks after a major disaster. Such tasks may include: traffic
control, foot patrol of business and residential areas, and reporting criminal
activity. Volunteers must be at least 16 years of age and live, work, or attend
high school in San Francisco.
Three steps to becoming an
A.L.E.R.T. volunteer:
1. Complete NERT training and receive
certification. To register for NERT training courses please visit www.sfgov.org/sfnert
2. Once NERT certified, forward a copy
of your NERT ID card to the ALERT program. sfpdalert@sfov.org
3. After clearing a basic background
check the individual is eligible to register for ALERT training.
3:20am 4800 Blk Mission Vandalism
An on duty security guard working at an establishment along
the 4700 block of Mission Street jumped into action when he witnessed a crime
taking place down the street. Officers Hermosura and Contreras arrived after
getting dispatched and spoke to the security guard, who said he witnessed two
subjects spray painting the front of an establishment with graffiti. The guard
ran down the street and confronted the two suspects making an on-the-spot
decision to make a citizen’s arrest. The guard, being out numbered, was able to
take one of the suspects into custody. The guard could only watch as the second
suspect made his escape. The suspect was clear of any warrants and was cited

Blk Cortland Resisting/Warrant
Arrest
A local business owner was having problems with a certain
individual who kept disrupting his business on a daily basis. On today’s date,
the owner said he was behind the counter when this same individual came into
the store to use the restroom. The owner denied his request because he was not
a customer. The individual became upset and began yelling profanities at the
owner and at all the customers inside. Still agitated the subject then went
outside to the front of the store and began urinating on an outside table and
chair. Quick to react, the business owner captured the incident on his cellular
phone and then called the police. Officer Johnson and Suguitan responded and
located the individual across the street. They noticed that he was very
intoxicated. A computer check revealed three outstanding warrants for his
arrest. He was taken to Ingleside to be booked in, but when they arrived he
decided to fight with the officers. After a short struggle the officers were
able to get the upper hand and finally booked him in. Report Number: 140772606

Vernon Robbery
A MUNI passenger was robbed of her Apple Iphone later today.
The victim said she was taking the bus home and was listening to music with her
earphones in both her ears. She then received a text message and pulled out her
phone to check the message. When the bus pulled into the bus stop at Mission
and Mount Vernon a suspect, who was already on the bus, came up from behind and
grabbed the victim’s phone from her hand. The suspect exited the bus and fled
on foot. The victim continued on and called the police when she arrived home.
Police Service Aide Bruce contacted MUNI to have the surveillance tape pulled
in an effort to identify the suspect. Report Number: 140773660
