Outstanding Police Work:  Members of the Ingleside Police Station have been hard at work, while putting their lives on the line, and recovered a total of five guns between a five day period, beginning Oct 31, 2013 to Nov 5, 2013. Among the weapons recovered were three handguns, one shotgun and one Tech-9 sub-machine gun all stemming from four separate incidents. Of the five subjects taken into custody, two were on probation and had extensive police records. We strongly believe that these great arrests may have prevented some serious crimes from taking place. Thanks to these great officers, the streets are a little saferJ.

The San Francisco Neighborhood Emergency Response Team (NERT) is free training from the San Francisco Fire Department in how to help yourself and your neighbors prepare for and respond to a disaster by working together. The 20-hour training, taught by First Responders, includes personal preparedness, light search and rescue, disaster medicine, shutting off your utilities, and how to participate as a member of a neighborhood response team.  NERT also offers continuing training for graduates and activities that support building robust neighborhood teams.  For more information, visit the NERT website at http://sfgov.org//sffdnert, or contact Lt. Erica Arteseros at (415)970-2022 or sffdnert@sfgov.org

Are you someone who is interested in disaster preparedness and wants to help out your community while working hand in hand with law enforcement? Then the ALERT program is for you!
                                            What is the A.L.E.R.T. Program?

The San Francisco Police Department has developed a volunteer citizen disaster preparedness program. The Auxiliary Law Enforcement Response Team (ALERT) is modeled after and works in partnership with the San Francisco Fire Department's Neighborhood Emergency Response Team (NERT). The ALERT program will train members of the public to assist law enforcement in essential tasks after a major disaster. Such tasks may include: traffic control, foot patrol of business and residential areas, and reporting criminal activity. Volunteers must be at least 16 years of age and live, work, or attend high school in San Francisco.

Three steps to becoming an
A.L.E.R.T. volunteer:
1. Complete NERT training and receive certification. To register for NERT training courses please visit www.sfgov.org/sfnert
2. Once NERT certified, forward a copy of your NERT ID card to the ALERT program. sfpdalert@sfov.org
3. After clearing a basic background check the individual is eligible to register for ALERT training.

The next ALERT training class has been scheduled for Jan. 18th, 2014, from 8:00am-5:00pm. This class will be held at the San Francisco Police Academy, in the parking lot bungalow.

Scam Alert:  Here is how it works: the suspect will call the victim and identify himself as a PG&E employee.  The suspect will ask for the victim by name and ask if he/she is the owner of a particular business or property.  Once the victim replies yes, the suspect tells the victim that his/her bill is delinquent in a specific amount.  The suspect then tells the victim that he/she needs to pay the delinquent bill by a certain time or their service will be terminated.  The suspect instructs the victim to buy MoneyPak cards in a specific amount.  The suspect then instructs the victim to read the card's code numbers to him over the phone.  Once that is done, the money is gone and the scam is complete.

The suspect will give the victim a call-back number that goes to a voicemail that identifies itself via recording as PG&E.

If you receive a call like this, please call the customer service number on your billing statement to confirm the call is legitimate.  If that call turns out to be a scam, please have a police report made

Arrests:

11:00am     100 Blk Cayuga                    Assault on a Police Officer
A woman walking her dog in the mini-park at Cayuga and Lamartine noticed a man walking toward her yelling with a knife in his right hand. As he got closer, he lunged at her dog, trying to stab it in the head. Fortunately, he missed, and the woman yelled, “What are you doing?”. “I’m calling the police”! The man then walked out of the park. Ingleside Officers LaRocca and Baldovino arrived and, after interviewing the victim, broadcast a description of the suspect. After the broadcast, both officers began searching for the suspect in the area and Officer Baldovino finally found him walking near the intersection of Lyell and Still Streets. Along with Officer Fitzpatrick who had arrived on scene, Officer Baldovino tried to detain the suspect. But the suspect refused to comply with the officer’s orders and, instead, tackled Officer Fitzpatrick, throwing him to the ground, and grabbing his firearm from his holster. A violent struggle ensued between the suspect and Officers Fitzpatrick, and the recently arrived Officers Baldovino, Etcheveste, Rand, and LaRocca. The officers were finally able to subdue the suspect and he was placed under arrest for resisting, aggravated assault on a police officer, and animal cruelty. The knife the suspect used while attempting to stab the dog was located a short distance from where he was arrested. Report number: 131047579

Serious Incidents:

5:57pm       Persia/Edinburgh                   Robbery
A man walking home on Edinburgh Street noticed a white SUV double parked with both the drivers and passengers doors open. The man kept walking until he noticed two men standing on the corner of Edinburgh and Persia Streets. He told Ingleside Officers Morse and Rock that the two men came up to him and asked him which gang he belonged too. When the victim said he didn’t belong to any gang, the two men pulled up his sleeves looking for tattoos. When they didn’t find any, they ripped off a gold chain from his neck, ran to the waiting SUV, and sped away. Report number: 131048668

6:30pm       200 Blk Ney                            Robbery
A woman walking home from the grocery store was robbed of her possessions. The victim told Ingleside Officers Morse and Rock that she was carrying a full grocery bag on her left arm and another on her right arm along with a purse when two suspects ran up behind her. The first grabbed the bag and the purse on her right arm while the second grabbed the bag from her left arm. The force of the assault and robbery knocked her to the ground. Both suspects succeeded in separating the victim from her property before escaping down Ney Street. The victim got back on her feet and yelled for help. A neighbor heard her pleas and called 911. Besides the groceries, the victim lost a wallet containing $900 in currency, her ID card, a diamond and gold ring, miscellaneous bank cards, and a watch. Report number: 131048771

6:55pm       700 Blk Portola                       Aggravated Assault
An argument at a bar led to an assault outside the drinking establishment. Witnesses, including the bartender, told Ingleside Officers Austin and Lockett that two men began arguing while in the bar, challenging each other to a fight. Finally, the bartender told them both to leave and once outside, one combatant hit the other combatant before the first man fled in a truck. The victim, bleeding from wounds to his face, told the officers he didn’t want “anything done” but just wanted to go home. The officers called for medical assistance and instead of going home, the victim was taken to the hospital for treatment. None of the witnesses knew the man who assaulted the victim and could not provide any additional information about his identity. Report number: 131048862

11:00pm     Lyell/Still                                 Robbery
A woman walking home from the Glen Park BART station lost her purse to a robber. The victim told Ingleside Officers Morse and Rock that she was walking westbound on Lyell, under the freeway, when she noticed a man walking toward her. As they passed each other, the victim said “hello” and the suspect responded by saying “hello” as he walked by. When the victim approached the intersection of Still and Lyell, she saw a shadow approach her from behind. Next, she felt her bag being torn from her grasp and watched as the suspect quickly ran down a footpath near the intersection holding her bag. The victim started running after the suspect but she lost sight of him near the intersection of Still and Danton St. Report number: 131049412
