Sept. 14, 2014

Incident Date:
Saturday, September 14th, 2013

The next community meeting at Ingleside Station will be held on October 15, 2013.  Thank you.

Back to School: As summer draws to a close, back-to-school season will be in full effect. Safety should be a priority for every family as children return to classrooms this fall. It’s crucial that all motorists understand how to safely share the roads with school buses, pedestrians and bicyclists. It’s also a good time for parents and children to talk about how to stay safe at school.

ALERT:  There has been an increase in auto boosts in the area of Monterey, O’Shaughnessy and Bosworth.  The break ins are occurring around the hours of 9:00am to 12:00pm.  Please report any suspicious activity to the police.  Do not leave valuables in your cars.

Community Police Academy: The San Francisco Police Department is accepting applications from people who are interested in joining the Community Police Academy. This ten week course is designed to inform and teach various aspects of municipal policing. The program covers procedures from patrol and investigations, vehicle operations, arrest and control techniques, firearm procedures and communications/911. The course will run for ten weeks with classes held every Tuesday night from 6:30pm to 9:00pm, starting on October 1, 2013 thru December 17, 2013.  For more information please visit the Community Police Academy website: http://sf-police.org/index.aspx?page=1590

The San Francisco Neighborhood Emergency Response Team (NERT) is free training from the San Francisco Fire Department in how to help yourself and your neighbors prepare for and respond to a disaster by working together. The 20-hour training, taught by First Responders, includes personal preparedness, light search and rescue, disaster medicine, shutting off your utilities, and how to participate as a member of a neighborhood response team.  NERT also offers continuing training for graduates and activities that support building robust neighborhood teams.  For more information, visit the NERT website at http://sfgov.org//sffdnert, or contact Lt. Erica Arteseros at (415)970-2022 or sffdnert@sfgov.org

The ALERT Program is the San Francisco Police Departments civilian disaster preparedness organization. Modeled after the Fire Department's Neighborhood Emergency Response Team (NERT), we are recruiting, training, uniforming, and credentialing civilians to assist law enforcement's response to a disaster. Crime Alert: Precita Park / Bernal Heights Area;  During the extended labor day holiday there were a total of 32 vehicles stolen in the Ingleside district as of 08/30/2013. Eight of those stolen vehicles were taken from the Precita Park and Bernal Heights area. Be sure to secure your vehicle (windows up, doors locked) before you leave your car parked on the street. Consider looking into getting an alarm or anti theft device such as a steering wheel club. This, for the most part, should deter most culprits from stealing your car. If you want to make it that much more difficult, consider installing a kill switch. Older model Hondas and Toyotas are among the most popular and easiest vehicles to steal.

District Wide Burglaries in the Ingleside: In The Last month of August there have been 7 reported burglaries throughout the district. 4 of those burglaries alone have taken place in the Bernal Heights area. The different methods of entries have been through unlocked windows, sliding glass doors, unlocked side doors, unlocked garages and in one case through a doggie door where the perpetrator squeezed themselves through the small opening. Also, homes under construction have been targeted and expensive tools and appliances have been taken. As the warmer weather of fall approaches, make sure to secure your residence and that all your windows and doors are locked before leaving. If you happen to see any suspicious activity around your neighborhood that looks odd or out of place, call the police immediately.

Crime Alert:  An increase of robberies and thefts has been occurring in and around the Balboa BART Station and City College area. There have been five robberies in the last couple weeks alone in this area. Be vigilant of your surroundings and follow the safety tips below.

Arrests:

8:07pm       Nevada/Jarboe                                D.U.I
A loud crash caught the immediate attention of an occupant of a home on Nevada Street shortly after 8 o’clock. When the witness looked out the window he was startled to see a car on it’s roof with the passenger crawling out of the overturned vehicle and running away. The witness dialed 911 and watched the driver slowly stumble out of the driver’s side window and stumble around the street before leaning against the parked pickup truck that was hit by his vehicle. Ingleside Officers Ocreto and Villaruel arrived on scene and questioned the driver who was bleeding from a cut on his elbow. The driver admitted to the officers that he was driving the now overturned car that hit the pickup truck. Soon thereafter, an ambulance arrived to take the driver to the hospital for treatment. Within the hour, he was interviewed by both Ingleside officers and admitted drinking an unknown number of beers before the accident. He was arrested for driving while intoxicated. Report number: 130774060.

Serious Incidents:

2:12am       3300 Blk Mission                            Assault
Ingleside officers Hauscarriague and Cariffe were dispatched to investigate a report of a man being assaulted by several other men. When they arrived at the address, the officers found the scene quiet but soon found the assault victim at a nearby intersection. The victim had a large laceration on the back of his head. He told the officers that he left a nearby club with his ex-girlfriend and went across the street to buy food at a grocery store. When he left the store, he was surrounded by several men in the store’s parking lot. Words were exchanged and one of the men in the crowd hit the victim with a baseball bat. He was transported to San Francisco General for treatment of his injuries. Report number: 130771969.

2:22am       4800 Blk Mission                            Robbery
Several young women, some crying, were sitting on the sidewalk when Ingleside Officers Jones and Wang arrived at the scene of a robbery. The victim, one of the young women, said they were standing in line waiting to order food at a local taqueria when several young men behind them started making rude remarks. The young women and the men exchanged words and then, without warning, one of the young men grabbed the victim’s cell phone and ran out of the restaurant. When the victim chased the victim out of the restaurant, the suspect turned and struck her face with his fist before running away. The victim refused medical attention and a search for the suspects was not successful. Report number: 130771947.
