Recently, a flyer was distributed to the community regarding scams targeting the monolingual Chinese. These scams involve telling the victim that an evil spirit is following them. They will ask the victim to bring valuables to pray over as an offering to the spirit. They will return to the victim what is believed to be their valuables. They will ask the victim not to look at their valuables for a day. When the victim later checks their valuables, they find that the valuables were not returned by the suspects.

By contacting 911, you greatly increase the chance of catching the suspect(s) so that the police can make an arrest. If someone approaches you with this scam, decline their help, call 911 immediately and report it to the police. Be a good witness. 10:35pm 4600 Blk Mission Robbery
It just so happened that Officers Anderson and Hermosura were close by when a call of a battery came out a few blocks away. The officers and additional Ingleside units rushed over to the location and found all the parties involved still on the scene, a victim and two suspects. The victim was crying and looked to have fresh injuries consistent with having been attacked. The victim said she exited the MUNI 49 line at Mission and Norton and sat and waited for the MUNI 14 line. After a few minutes, a male suspect walked towards the bus shelter screaming like a wild animal. This suspect then asked the victim if he could see the MUNI map that she was sitting next to. The victim said she was not in his way and continued to sit where she was. The suspect’s female companion then began yelling obscenities at the victim and without warning proceeded to attack her. While this was occurring, the male suspect rummaged through the victim’s purse and when he was done, he too joined in on the attack. The victim tried to get away and call the police on her cell phone but was cornered. Luckily, a witness who was passing by saw the brutal attack and immediately called the police. Because of the quick response, both suspects couldn’t make their escape and were taken into custody. The victim was transported to the local hospital to get treated and both suspects were taken to Ingleside Station and charged with attempted robbery as well as battery with serious injuries. Serious Incidents:
5:13pm 400 Blk Geneva Robbery
Officer Ng met with a victim who had been robbed in the area of Geneva and San Jose Avenue. The victim said she was riding a MUNI bus when it stopped at the bus stop in front of the Balboa BART Station. She said three suspects exited the same bus, but one of the females in the group snatched her phone from her hand before exiting. The victim said she followed the suspect off the bus and confronted her. The suspect stopped and threw the phone in the street. When the victim went to retrieve her phone, she was pushed from behind causing her to fall to the ground. The same suspect took the victim’s phone again this time concealing it in her pocket. The victim wasn’t giving up so easily, so she tried to take the phone out of the suspect’s pocket. The suspect then reached down and twisted her fingers with such force that it caused the victim to let go of her grasp. All three suspects then fled the scene in an unknown direction.
