Recently, a flyer was distributed to the community regarding scams targeting the monolingual Chinese.  These scams involve telling the victim that an evil spirit is following them.  They will ask the victim to bring valuables to pray over as an offering to the spirit. They will return to the victim what is believed to be their valuables. They will ask the victim not to look at their valuables for a day.  When the victim later checks their valuables, they find that the valuables were not returned by the suspects.

We urge all person(s) confronted with this scam to call 911 as this is a crime in progress.  By contacting 911, you greatly increase the chance of catching the suspect(s) so that the police can make an arrest.  If someone approaches you with this scam, decline their help, call 911 immediately and report it to the police.  Be a good witness.  Obtain a description of the suspect(s) and/or vehicles they are driving.

Arrests:

1:10am       3300 Blk Mission          Resisting
Officers McMilton and Peregrina were dispatched to a report of a suspect who was throwing bottles at passing cars.  They located the individual and attempted to detain him near 30th and Mission.  The individual began yelling obscenities at the officers and refused to comply with their orders.  Additional Ingleside officers responded to assist and took the subject into custody after a brief struggle.  He was transported to Ingleside station where he was cited and released.

5:00am       San Jose/Geneva           Recovered Vehicle
Officers Gordon and Padilla were on patrol doing passing calls at an area known for gambling and illegal drugs.  Several male subjects were congregating around a turquoise vehicle and walked away quickly when they saw the officers.  The officers continued on patrol.  They later spotted the same vehicle driving on Mission with a failed brake light.  The officers attempted to affect a traffic stop, but the driver fled the area.  The officers recognized the driver as one of the individuals who had been loitering near the vehicle earlier.  They attempted to follow the vehicle, but lost sight of it as the individual began driving erratically, failing to stop at a red light and stop sign.  Officers notified dispatch that the vehicle had fled the scene and broadcasted a description of the driver and the vehicle.

Shortly thereafter, Officers Peregrina and McMilton located the vehicle and a male matching the description nearby.  Officers Gordon and Padilla responded to their location where they identified the suspect and detained him.  They made a positive identification on the suspect, who admitted to driving the vehicle and hanging around the gambling establishment.  A record check revealed multiple arrests for vehicle code violations and a suspended license.  The suspect was taken into custody.

Officers searched the vehicle and located contact information for the registered owner.  They contacted the owners who confirmed the vehicle had been stolen earlier that day.  Both the vehicle and the suspect were taken to Ingleside Station.  At the instruction of Sgt. Springer, the suspect was booked for the auto theft.  The vehicle was released to its registered owner.  Officers took pictures of the vehicle and the suspect, and booked them into evidence at Ingleside station.
Report Number 130459416

8:28am       N/B 101 Fwy                 Recovered Vehicle
Officers Campos and Tam responded to the call of an occupied stolen vehicle.  The reportee advised that she spotted a female suspect driving her friend’s vehicle which had been stolen.  The reportee remained on the phone as the police responded to her location(s).  The officers located the vehicle and initiated a traffic stop.  They removed the driver from the vehicle.  A record check showed she was driving on a suspended license.  She was transported to Ingleside station pending further investigation.

The registered owner of the vehicle was contacted, responded to the scene, and the vehicle was released to her.  Officers took pictures of the vehicle and the suspect for evidence.  With the approval of Sgt. Chan, the female suspect was booked for the auto theft.  Report Number 130453593
