Weather related crime alert; with the current nice weather and increased temperature, some people are leaving their windows open in an effort to keep their residences cooler inside. Be extra careful, especially when you leave your home and leave the windows unsecured. Burglars are always looking for the easiest way inside your home. Don’t give them that opportunity for the easy access. Make sure to secure these entry points and leave them locked when you are not around.

Public Safety; In light of recent events at the Boston marathon, the police department will be increasing patrols in areas where the public gather including special events. If you see a suspicious package that does not look right or does not belong in the area, do not investigate it yourself. Create a safe distance between you and the suspicious package and do not use your cell phone to call the police. Use a landline to call “911” and provide your location and if possible the description of the package. Officers will be dispatched to assess the situation and take the appropriate action.

Arrests:

9:17am       Unit Blk Amethyst                  Vandalism/Trespassing
A total of nine Ingleside Police Officers, including 3 Sergeants, were dispatched to a “burglary in progress”, call on the unit block of Amethyst Way. The victim told the 911 operator that he was taking a shower when he heard loud “thuds” inside his home. When he went to his bedroom, he saw three young subjects running down the stairs inside his home trying to escape. He called police and then noticed his large 5’ by 8’ living room window was smashed. Quickly arriving officers detained the three suspects in the home and, after questioning, determined that the three young men were not trying to burglarize the home, but were trying to use the residence as an escape route. A subsequent investigation determined the three subjects in the home were with two others all of whom were students at the nearby School. The five were violating rules by being off campus during school hours. When school security spotted the five, all of them ran away with three of them running down the hill, near the school, into the backyards of several residences on Amethyst Way. One of the three had a skateboard and used it to break the window on the victim’s home. All five subjects were brought back to the school, cited, and released to their parents. 2:23pm       Sawyer/Sunnydale                  Stolen Property/Hit&Run
Ingleside Officers Phillips, Johnson, and Obot were on routine patrol when they spotted a Blue Honda Accord, with two occupants, running a stop sign at Sawyer and Sunnydale Avenue. The officers turned on their lights and siren and instead of pulling over, the driver sped away and travelling at a high rate of speed, went through another stop sign at the intersection of Sawyer and Visitaction where it collided with Green Toyota. After the collision, the driver opened the door and tried sprinting away. Unfortunately for him, his escape proved short lived and he was arrested a less than a block away from the accident. The officers discovered the Honda was stolen from a San Francisco address and was being driven with “shaved keys”, keys that car thieves use to steal older Hondas.  The Honda driver, who was on probation from San Mateo County, was transported to Ingleside Station, and booked for several crimes. The passenger, a young man, who was a runaway from Tracy, was released to a Child Protective Services worker. The driver of the Green Toyota was taken to San Francisco General Hospital and treated for her injuries. Report number: 130384415

7:15pm       Italy/Naples                            D.U.I
Officers Grennell and Campos were on routine patrol in the Excelsior District when they were dispatched to a non-injury vehicle accident on the 500 Block of Italy Street. When they arrived, other Ingleside units had already detained the driver of an older Volkswagen that had collided with numerous parked vehicles. One of several witnesses told the officers that he heard a crash and saw the Volkswagen collide with other vehicles parked on Naples Street. The witness said he ran up to the driver and told him to stop because he feared he would injure a pedestrian. When the driver didn’t stop, the witness pulled him from the vehicle shortly before police arrived. The driver was taken to San Francisco General Hospital, treated for his wounds, and tested for his blood alcohol level. During his treatment, he admitted to the attending physician that “he took one or two Norcos” and drank a couple of beers”. He was later booked for the D.U.I.  Report number: 130385225

9:38pm       4700 Blk Mission                   Narcotics
Ingleside Officers Carrasco and Dominguez were on routine patrol when they spotted a man, with several previous narcotics and weapons arrests, illegally riding his bike down the sidewalk. The officers stopped and questioned the suspect and while searching him for weapons, discovered a meth pipe and a quantity of methamphetamine in a front pants pocket. He was taken to Ingleside Station and booked for his crimes. Report number: 130385504
