Crime Alert: Glen Park BART Station and surrounding area; A recent trend in robberies are occurring where suspect(s) are running up behind an unsuspecting victim and proceed to shove or push them to the ground and then forcefully take their cell phone, MP3 player and/or other valuable belongings. If you happen to see what may seem like a fight taking place on the street, it could actually be a robbery taking place. Immediately call (415) 553-8090 from your cell phone or “911” from a landline. Ingleside Police Officers are stepping up their efforts and increasing patrol to the area as well as sending our plain clothes officers to conduct surveillance. Remember, report any crime that you see taking place or anything that looks suspicious.

Weather related safety; Due to the inclement weather involving high winds, there have been numerous downed power lines and fallen tree limbs throughout the city. If there is a power line down in your neighborhood, for your own safety, do not approach it and stay a safe distance away while calling “911”.  Our headquarters will dispatch officers as well as the appropriate department to come out and assess the situation and repair the damage. If there is a fallen tree limb, call “311” and request DPW (Department of Public Works) to come out and handle the hazard. Also, be sure to look up to see if there are any broken tree limbs that are hanging from the tree that can pose a threat to people and/or property. Call “311” immediately.

Public Safety; In light of recent events at the Boston marathon, the police department will be increasing patrols in areas where the public gather including special events. If you see a suspicious package that does not look right or does not belong in the area, do not investigate it yourself. Create a safe distance between you and the suspicious package and do not use your cell phone to call the police. Use a landline to call “911” and provide your location and if possible the description of the package. Officers will be dispatched to assess the situation and take the appropriate action.

Arrests:

6:09am       Niagara/Cayuga                           D.U.I
Ingleside Officer Chang responded to a report of a citizen following a suspected hit and run driver escaping on foot near the intersection of Niagara and Cayuga Streets. Officer Chang and Officer Etcheveste, who responded to the area to help with the investigation, found two people nearby, the woman who called 911 and the suspect. The witness told the officers she was home with her husband when she heard a loud crash outside her home. When she looked out the window she saw the suspect standing in the middle of the street talking on his cell phone and one car that had collided with a parked car. Both cars were unoccupied.  When she went outside to further look at the accident, the suspect began running away on Niagara Avenue. After recording her statement, the officers, then questioned the suspect. After observing several visual clues to his inebriation, they asked the suspect if he had been drinking. He admitted drinking a 40 ounce of beer the night before, but denied being drunk. He told Officer Etcheveste that he was not driving any motor vehicle. The officer searched the suspect for weapons and found a key and a remote lock to the car, which caused the hit and run accident a short distance away. The car was also registered to the suspect’s mother. The suspect declined a Field Sobriety Test and after further investigation it was suspected that the driver was under the influence of alcohol. He was later booked for D.U.I.  Report number: 130346437.

12:22pm     Unit Blk Patton                            Resisting/Delaying
Officer Hopkins and Cahill responded to the second call of loud music coming from a home on the unit block of Patton Street. The officers, from several yards away, could hear the music and see windows vibrating from the sound. In the backyard of the home, next to a public stairway, was a tent, inside of which was the source of the disturbance. The officers yelled to get the attention of the tent’s occupant but the music was so loud, the occupant could not hear the officers. Officer Hopkins had to hit the fence several times before the occupant reacted to their presence and turned the music down.  The resident then approached the two officers and accused them of “harassing” him for playing his music. Officer Cahill responded by telling him he could play his music at an acceptable level that didn’t disturb his neighbors. The resident called the officers derogatory names and told them to “Go do something else”. The officers advised the resident that this was the second call for loud music and that he could be cited for disturbing the peace. The resident became even angrier and the officers again asked him to keep the music at an appropriate level before walking back to their vehicle. When the officers reached their patrol car, an unknown male was standing next to it. The male, displaying serious signs of intoxication, accused the officers of calling him a derogatory name. He was placed under arrest for public intoxication and transported to Ingleside Station. Other Ingleside officers remained on scene to further investigate the loud music complaint. While at the station being booked, the suspect suddenly became combative and violently resisted their attempts to control him. After a prolonged struggle with several Ingleside officers, the suspect was finally subdued and booked on a variety of charges. Report number: 130346948

9:52pm       800 Blk Madrid                            Theft
Officers McCall and Lozano investigated a theft report where the victim told dispatch he observed a woman rummaging through his car. While on their way to the scene of the crime the officers observed a woman, matching the description of the suspect, standing on the corner down the block from where the theft was reported. The woman was unwrapping a package of cigarettes which, the victim confirmed, had been stolen, along with other items, from his unlocked vehicle. The suspect, who had a felony record for burglary and other crimes, was booked at Ingleside Station. Report number: 130348029

11:30pm     Cortland/Folsom                          Battery of a Police Officer
Ingleside patrol officers Gomez, Kerlegan, Lundy and Hauscarriague were sent to an address on Cortland to investigate a report of a man throwing items inside a home. The home’s occupants told the officers the suspect was the son of the owner of the home and became angry when his mother, seeing his intoxicated state, would not give him the keys to her car. The suspect reportedly broke several items in the home, punched walls, and overturned recycling bins in front of the residence before walking away. While officers Lundy and Hauscarriague stayed at the home, officers Kerlegan and Gomez searched the neighborhood for the suspect. They found him a short distance away and stopped to take him into custody. However, the suspect violently resisted both officers and tried to attack Officer Gomez. After a short struggle, the suspect was subdued, arrested, and transported to Ingleside Station for booking. Report number: 130348342.
