Crime Alert: Glen Park BART Station and surrounding area; A recent trend in robberies are occurring where suspect(s) are running up behind an unsuspecting victim and proceed to shove or push them to the ground and then forcefully take their cell phone, MP3 player and/or other valuable belongings. If you happen to see what may seem like a fight taking place on the street, it could actually be a robbery taking place. Immediately call (415) 553-8090 from your cell phone or “911” from a landline. Ingleside Police Officers are stepping up their efforts and increasing patrol to the area as well as sending our plain clothes officers to conduct surveillance. Remember, report any crime that you see taking place or anything that looks suspicious.

Weather related safety; Due to the inclement weather involving high winds, there have been numerous downed power lines and fallen tree limbs throughout the city. If there is a power line down in your neighborhood, for your own safety, do not approach it and stay a safe distance away while calling “911”.  Our headquarters will dispatch officers as well as the appropriate department to come out and assess the situation and repair the damage. If there is a fallen tree limb, call “311” and request DPW (Department of Public Works) to come out and handle the hazard. Also, be sure to look up to see if there are any broken tree limbs that are hanging from the tree that can pose a threat to people and/or property. Call “311” immediately.

Public Safety; In light of recent events at the Boston marathon, the police department will be increasing patrols in areas where the public gather including special events. If you see a suspicious package that does not look right or does not belong in the area, do not investigate it yourself. Create a safe distance between you and the suspicious package and do not use your cell phone to call the police. Use a landline to call “911” and provide your location and if possible the description of the package. Officers will be dispatched to assess the situation and take the appropriate action.

Arrests:

3:50pm       4400 Blk Mission                             Drugs
Officers Hurwitz and Duffin were on foot patrol checking on a business along the 4400 block of Mission Street. When they entered the establishment, they noticed a man looking nervously at the officers and then at the back entrance. The officers approached the man and asked if he was on parole or probation. He told the officers he was on probation and a computer check confirmed that his probation included a search condition. When the officers began searching the victim, he stated, “Just arrest me because I know I’m going to jail.” His statement turned out to be correct because the officers discovered in several pockets a cocaine pipe and a large quantity of crack cocaine. Report number: 130329063

6:59pm       3400 Blk Mission                             Drugs
Officer Hurwitz was on routine patrol when she saw a man exit a vehicle and walk across the street. Another man, waiting near the vehicle, was known to Officer Hurwitz from previous arrests. When both men noticed Officer Hurwitz they quickly started to walk away to avoid being stopped. Officer Hurwitz drove down the street and stopped both subjects for questioning. She also radioed for backup and several other Ingleside officers responded to the scene. During a search of the first suspect, officers discovered a quantity of Methamphetamine in one of his pockets and several rolls of cash in another pocket. Because he was on probation, and was wanted on an outstanding traffic warrant, the suspect was transported to Ingleside Station and booked for a variety of charges. The other man was not arrested. Report number: 130330010

10:27pm     Bosworth/Marsily                            Robbery
Officers Carrasco and Dominguez were responding to another call when they were flagged down by a man, who said he was robbed by two men after exiting the Glen Park BART station. The victim told the officers he was walking down Bosworth Street when he saw two men approaching him on the sidewalk. The victim crossed the street to avoid the men, but the suspects turned and followed him. When the suspects reached the victim they grabbed his shirt and pushed him up against the wall on a building. One of the robbers told the victim, “this will only hurt for a minute. Give me everything”. The two robbers took the victims red bag with clothing, books and eye glasses, and then reached into his jacket and took more clothing, a wallet containing credit cards, ID cards, miscellaneous business cards, and a cell phone before running away. The officers broadcast a description of the suspects and, a short time later, Ingleside Officers Ma and Hauscarriague radioed they located some of the victim’s property on the 100 block of Rousseau Street. Officer Hauscarriague also broadcast that he noticed a tall wooden fence in the area moving back and forth and “crunching” sound coming from the other side of the fence. Other Ingleside officers responded to the scene and Officer Hauscarriague peered over the fence and spotted the two suspects in the backyard of a residence. They were immediately taken into custody and a search of the two robbers found some of the victim’s clothing along with his wallet. Both suspects were taken to Ingleside Station and booked on a variety of charges. Report number: 130330355

Serious Incidents:

1:10 am      Alemany/Lyell                                  Robbery
Ingleside Officers Carrasco and Dominguez were dispatched to the area of Mission and Alemany to investigate a robbery. The victim told the officers he was walking down Alemany, near Lyell Street, when he noticed a vehicle driving slowly along the street parallel to him. Fearing he was going to be robbed, the victim stopped walking. The vehicle kept going a few feet farther and stopped. After stopping, a passenger jumped out of the vehicle and approached the victim with a black semi-automatic handgun. The robber demanded the victim’s backpack, wallet, and Ipod music player. Fearing for his safety, the victim complied with the robber’s demands. The robber then entered the waiting vehicle and sped away. Report number: 130330612

1:40pm       John F Shelley/Cambridge             Robbery
Field Training Officer Elton and Officer Cortez were dispatched to McLaren Park after a report of a robbery. The officers were flagged down by the victim who told police he was relaxing in his car, with the windows down and eyes closed, listening to music when he felt someone punch him on the left side of his face. He woke up to see two men, one with a handgun, reaching through the window to take his iPhone. Then, one of the robbers told the victim, “give me all your money, your keys, your wallet”, saying, “I’ll kill you if I have to”. The victim, fearing for his life, complied. The suspects then fled on foot and the victim ran for help finding a woman in the park who called police. Report number: 130328811
