Serious Incidents:

3:32am       Unit Blk Norwich            Burglary
Officer Ferronato and Sgt Nakano responded to the unit block of Norwich Street to investigate a hot prowl burglary. The victim explained that he woke up after hearing his garage door open. He immediately went downstairs and found his garage door open and saw that two of his bicycles had been stolen. Officer Ferronato inspected the garage door and found no signs of forced entry. Sgt Nakano inspected the victim’s vehicle, which was parked out on the street, and found out that someone had shattered the driver’s side window. The victim went to his vehicle and saw that his remote garage door opener had been moved from the driver’s side visor. After the investigation, it was determined that the suspect forced entry into the victim’s vehicle and pressed the button on the remote garage door opener to gain entry into the victim’s garage, from there the suspect had access to the garage and stole the two bicycles. Officer Ferronato and Sgt Nakano searched the area for surveillance cameras and for the suspect to no avail. Report Number: 130198169
Remember, if you leave your vehicle parked out on the street, do not leave your remote garage door opener inside the car. Take it with you.

7:45am       400 Blk Geneva             Theft
Officers Pai and Chang responded to Geneva and San Jose Avenue regarding a robbery call. A third party caller stated that a victim, who had just been robbed, was chasing a suspect eastbound on Geneva from San Jose Avenue. The officers searched the area and found the victim, who said he had been standing at the MUNI bus stop in front of the Balboa Park BART Station. The victim said he placed his Brown bag with belongings on top of some empty seats inside the MUNI bus shelter. Moments later, he noticed the suspect walking towards the bus shelter and without warning grabbed his bag and ran off. The victim chased after the suspect but lost him in the area. A witness who saw the theft immediately called the police. The officers searched the area to no avail. The victim said he was not hurt and did not need any medical attention. Report Number: 130198266

11:30am     Unit Blk Ina                  Impersonating Utility Worker
Officers Fung and Suguitan went to the unit block of Ina Court regarding a case of suspected fraud. They spoke with the victim, who said she received a call this morning from a suspect who identified himself as a PG&E representative. The suspect advised the victim that her gas and electric meters needed to be replaced because her previous bills were too high. The suspect went on to say that to cover the cost for replacing the meters, the victim would need to purchase a prepaid “Green Dot Money” card in the amount of $300.00 and hand it over to a representative who would be showing up to her residence. The suspect said the money would then be returned after the meters were replaced. The victim thought this was highly suspicious, so she called PG&E directly who told her that they made no such phone calls and were not replacing any meters in her area. The victim never went to purchase the prepaid card and called the police instead. Report Number: 130199123

CRIME ALERT:  There has been an increase in auto boostings around Precita Park and the surrounding area.  Don’t be a Victim.
Take extra precautions to avoid a criminal window-shopping inside your car. Never give them a reason to break into your car and steal your belongings.

                                                          Safety Tips:
*Try to park in a well- lit area and always lock your doors and secure your windows.
*Do not leave possessions on the seat or in plain view.
*Never hide belongings under the seat: This is the first place burglars check.
*Never cover expensive items with an article of clothing or blanket:  This presents a hidden clue to thieves that items may be underneath.
*Do not leave any important documents inside your car that contain your personal information.
* Do not leave phone or MP3 chargers plugged in: this leads the burglar to believe there are expensive electronics inside your car.

Remember, if a criminal is unsuccessful and is not benefitting from his criminal activity, the thief will move on, thus making your neighborhood less of a target.
